Upgrading from Samsung S6 Edge - Recommendations?

After 3 years I am looking at upgrading from my beloved s6 edge, mainly due to battery issues and it is extremely slow and laggy. what would ozb recommend as an upgrade trying to keep it under 1k. Performance and Battery life are most important to be, I barely use my phone camera. Have been looking at the s9 plus, when would be the best time to get a bargain? also have considered the iPhone 8, pixel 2, and p20 pro. What would you recommend?
will be buying outright.

    Huawei mate 10 or 20 - their battery life is phenomenal with 4000mah. lasts two days.

        flagship specs. I have the mate 9 and on top of the great battery life, I get almost no lag (if any, probably the same as a Samsung galaxy phone). Can't go wrong.

    5g is coming… Just wait and bear with it for now tbh. Otherwise it'll be another 3 years before you can enjoy 5g

    S8 is not bad. Pretty cheap at the moment a decent upgrade!

    Nokia 6.1, 6.1 plus or 7 plus. Buy outright from JBHIFI or Officeworks.

    Choose something else. You have listed good phones with great cameras.
    Try cheaper, say a Samsung s8 or LG G6 or V30

      I've heard about bootloop issues on the g6 and v30 but will look in to it

      i was thinking of waiting for the s10 because s9 prices would drop, but my current phone might not last that long

    Would personally hold off a little longer. Specifically for thos ROG phone. Looks very promising for the estimated price.

    Otherwise, the note 8/s9 (depending on phone size preference) are solid choices. Obviously go with the note 9 if you can find it under a grand thanks to it's bigger battery and QoL improvements.

        It's a new "gaming" phone releasing soon, though all that means is that it has some cool accessories and a… unique, design.

        It's an ASUS phone.

        Give it a look if you want more details. But it looks like it'll be a pretty nice phone.

            @C3P0: Yeah. Will be around the grand mark based on (what I believe) the American pricing is, but that's around the same price as the one's you mentioned I believe.
