This is a great deal; especially considering the just-released 2070 starts at $900…for a roughly 10% gain over the 1080 :/

Of course, that price will come down given time - but right now it'd be a bit silly to pay ~$250 more just for ray tracing (won't stop some though I suppose)

  • That's the NVIDIA reference design which is always more expensive. Wait until 3rd party manufacturer's release for better prices.

    • You can get AIB partner boards now. The cheapest I've seen is the Inno3D Twin X2 at $939.

      • Again, they're all still the OC models. Any OC model has been binned by NVIDIA and seems to cost at least 10% more (usually 20%).

        • That Inno3D card is using the reference spec boost clock of 1620MHz, not the Founders Edition OC clock of 1710Mhz.

          • @TheContact: That's got to be a vendor taking the piss then, because I was expecting markups for cards with limited units (the A-list binning), not for basic retail cards.

33% price premium over the USA when they have a 10% tariff in force is a joke.

FWIW, you're better off getting an OC card off eBay at that price if you want a 2070, tech-mall have the Armor OC for $911 after the 20% code on right now.

When pricing actually normalises, the value buy for overclocking should be the EVGA XC GAMING, which shouldn't tip past $800.

    I've been robbed of $0.80!!!

Do what every other ozbargainer would do in this situation. Hire private investigator to find an ex nvidia employee. Pay the ex employee to build a self destruct mechanism into the gpu you bought. When you install the gpu your house will catch on fire and one of your neighbours will die. Claim compensation from your insurance provider and then buy the gpu for 80 cents cheaper than before.

I'll add it to the potential extras on the GoFundMe , can't really afford it now. Took a big financial hit , I don't wanna talk about it too much :(

Great deal, almost equal performance to a 2070 for a bit more than 2/3rds the price.
They say that Pascal prices will start to rise again now, so jump on it I say.

  • Is 1070ti around $520 still better?

  • I did it. I was waiting for 1080 ti but i don't reckon i'll get my hands on one this year for sub $1000 (new). Coming from GTX 970 running at 1440p it should be a nice upgrade.

    • 10xx prices are going back up because of 20xx pricing having a worse flop/$ point, not better, so everyone is still buying the former. No sub $1k for another while, if at all.

I'm considering the same, although I'm upgrading from a GTX 770 so the difference is even bigger!
Downside is that I think I also have to upgrade my PSU, I built this system with 450W 4 years ago now….

      • im in gtx 770 land also…..running with a Ryzen 2700x….

I still cant bring myself to part with the $$ to upgrade the GPU. 770 still plays the games I want….

  • A windforce 1080 OC for $623 from a brick and mortar store back in Nov 2017. Let's say the bnm cost offsets the change in exchange rate.

This is a great example of why nvidia is taking the piss. No competition so they milk consumers. Cmon AMD, do something!

On the other hand, I actually have a theory that the rise of e-sports as the de facto national sport of the most populous nation in the world (China) is irrevocably changed the PC component market, making all prices higher forever.

      • That's not really how commerce works. Usually the larger the demand, the more are produced, the cheaper manufacturing costs are, the cheaper the thing becomes.

What makes it more expensive is if there is something limiting the availability. For example, nVidia not factoring cryptocurrency into their sales projections.

I'd argue that now it's an artificial supply problem created because it means nVidia can charge more. AFAIK there is not a supply problem with the raw materials (although RAM is way too expensive as well, so maybe?).

  • All sold out.

They've got the MSI 1080 Armour OC for $652.. Think I'll pull the trigger on that one.

  • Shame, too slow for this one :/

  • I had to! I got one yesterday, I am picking it up from Alexandria warehouse in NSW from FUTU, had to make a phone call and ask them as I live close by , it would be ridiculous to leave the warehouse to come back 2 blocks away after 4 days, they were kind enough to make the exception for me great service!
