Having formerly worked with EB Games Australia in a variety of roles for just over 5 years it is safe to say I can answer almost anything.

Do EB have watch lists for customers with suspicious buying patterns?
If so, do you know or have theories on the triggers?

    • Absolutely! Suspicious buying patterns are brought up through EB World every week. We avidly monitor the customer's future transactions and if discouraging (pre-ordering 5 mini NES consoles under different names for resale leverage) they can be ultimately banned.

      • Yeah, not talking about pre-order scalping. More along the lines of the pre-owned games they are buying and returning, constantly trading in the same game. E.g. every time I see a copy of Wii Sports resort for $3 in an op shop, I pick it up and trade it in.

Also, Has there ever been any kind of interest in the value of manuals for older generation games?

When walking past EB, I often find myself wondering if there is a sale on. Do you think you could convince management to put a few "SALE" signs and posters on the store fronts when sales take place?

    • Hahaha

    • +1

Unfortunately we are capped to the amount of "SALE" signage we are actually allowed to put up! haha
For example, in my shopping centre other stores were jealous to the fact they hardly ever have sales so we had to sometimes keep stakeholder management at the forefront.

One year I had a large cardboard print out of Obi Wan stating "This is not the sale you are looking for"
Needless to say it was one of our best Mid Year Sales ever!

    1) Have you ever had a parent come in and ask for recommendations for their x year old child? If so, what did you tend to recommend?

    2) Did you get many under 15s wanting the newest BF/CoD/GTA? Did their parents willingly purchase it for them?

    3) What is the most money an individual person spent in one purchase that you remember?

    4) I once had a Battle Net friend who worked at EA. He traded game codes for WoW gold. Can we be friends?

    5) Do female staff at EB tend to attract more customers? Whenever I walk by and see a girl working it's like all the weirdo's flock in.

Hassling female staff is I think a general tactic of "weirdos", I doubt it's EB specific.

As a girl in the gaming scene I agree

But 99% of the time I like the attention so weirdos are welcome

        • Hi, I'm a weirdo. Let's be friends.

          :p

        • Urhg… can't believe I let a girl advise me on modding my 2DS. Surprised it didn't catch fire…

          What's your phone number?

      1) All the time, pretty much daily! If x is referring to 10 then usually it was Lego games or Minecraft.. those were always popular

      2) Like the first response, pretty much daily! haha Once I highlight the drugs, sex, nudity and violence in GTA they look at their children and walk out raging at them!

      3) I'll never forget it! $7,950. He bought a PS4, XBOX ONE and pretty much every game that was out at the time. Also an extra controller for both, headset, online subscriptions etc..

      4) haha we can be friends but sadly I do not play WOW :P

      5) Pretty much all the time.. I had a gender equal workplace at my store and my younger female staff I'd find always would be attempted to be hit on or flirted with. I'd very swiftly step in and make it aware to them what they were doing IS NOT cool.

  • Hi, I'm interested in buying a Nintendo Switch these days. Do you know if there will be a Switch discount in EB soon?

    • +2

Christmas I believe will be a good time to Switch over to Nintendo :P

  • I know EB don't do rentals, but have you read Acts of Gord?

  • Hi OP, is the sale over now?

  • Are ebgames employees paid to say they own Xbox?
Having asked a few staff from various stores which console they prefer and what they play, they all said xbox.

It might just be a conspiracy but i do wonder.

    • Microsoft try harder, I prefer Xbox as well, especially the controller. They getting smoked in the exclusives race but apart from that I think the console is better in every way.

      • +1

        I can't $ay much about that $ituation.. I'll always be a PlayStation boi!

        • I can read between the line$.

          :D

      • Xbone UI is totally terrible.

  • I'm keen to know if the reason that EB online does not care to ensure all consoles come with the right parts is because:
    1) The management is about greed and profit
    2) They don't know that under Australian Consumer Law they need to be clear when excluding components one would normally expect.
    3) There is a no proper processes to handle quality of the service.

I ordered a refurbish Wii console and it was missing a few bits. Took me weeks of going back and forth with the online team, reminding them of the consumer law before the shipped the last remaining parts begrudgingly too! and also reminding them that by their own policy I could just return it and get my money back if they continued to refuse to help.

Why be so painful. Surely the point of selling refurbished units is to encourage follow up games purchases (which I think is a win win for everyone) but I was left not waiting to deal with EB because of the online team's "attitude" of sending through the few missing parts that cost them almost nothing to supply.

I just don't get the motivation. Surely customer service is where a company can shine and lock in customers for life if they do it well.

    • Very interesting. Thanks!

  • Let me preface this by saying that I've achieved a highly favourable outcome today already, a full refund, baahhht

In January I click and collected the $29 steam link + $20 steam credit bundle and I paid for it online (not sure its possible to c+c without paying in advance but thought it worth mentioning).

Bahhhhrrttt, I might not have actually gotten around to the collecting part until today…

I never got any reminder emails or automatic refund or anything, I can't say I fully unconditionally expected it to still be there but he says its gone and like I said, he refunded it no questions asked even though he said that technically he doesn't have anyway to tell that I didn't actually collect it back in January, limitation of the system at the time or some such thing.

Said he'd chase up with the off site warehouse and give me a call if he found it (or another).

So my question is… What are the chances I'm gonna get the call?

Thought it was kinda loose from a inventory control perspective, like at some point, they've sold my stuff that I've paid for without ever contacting me…
