Couldn't find a review of the 1000 G1+, but did for the 850 G1+ which received a score of 9.2/10.

  • (I have no idea how PSU works) the 1000W is the maximum this unit can draw is that correct? If I install this, and the combination of components it's tasked to power for example is 400W. Is this going to cost me identical power bill than if I had a 600W PSU in its place?

    • Simply put yes. PSU draws power they require e.g. 400w if your system is pulling 400w

    • Draw at the powerpoint will depend on efficiency. But uh…. even if this PSU is a lot more efficient at 400W than the 600W PSU, it'll take you a loooooong time to make back the price difference in your power bill.

      • Yeah. Higher wattage power supplies are also less efficient at idle/near idle loads so it kind of offsets the benefit of higher 60% load efficiency anyways.

      If you are only drawing 400W and don't plan to expand much, probably get the 600W. Most PSUs are peak efficiency around 50-75% of load. 400W draw on a 1000W is not ideal. In the real world though we're talking a few percent at most.

      • Thanks for the link, will have a read before bed, I expect it to be a lengthy read.

        The 400/1000 vs 400/600 is a clearer example of what is the more optimal option, what if I know for certain all the components will pull a maximum of 550, will a 600 do? Or should I make the jump to 700 or whatever is the next line up?

        • I'd get at least a 650W PSU if you know the system will draw 550W at peak load, because depending on age and efficiency, the actual draw might be slightly higher, and again for efficiency (and just safety margin) reasons you don't want your PSU to actually be running at more than about 80% regularly.

      I've owned this for 2+ years now (the same model), it is inaudible if you have any other fans in your system. Pretty much as quiet, if not quieter than my Noctua fans. So really, to say these are "loud" is just not right.

    • The G3 is also notoriously loud, especially the higher wattage units. Plus it has some pretty crappy protections so not an amazing buy.

  • Do this high watt power supplies produce coil whine or does the noise just come from the fan etc ?
