  • good deal
i went there today, you can get a 65" panasonic plasma for $2500.
    this thing was gigantic!

    • Which model? The 3D capable (VT20)? Surely not?!

      • I'd say it'd be model "TH-P50VT20A" mate.

        • +1

"TH-P50VT20A", that is not the 65" i think the guy above is questioning

      • Yep sorry, what tchi6 said ^

        Which specific 65" model was $2500, S20, V20, VT20, etc?

        • Only the S20 and VT20 comes in 65" I believe…I assume it would have to be the S20?

  • yes, its going to be replaced, but this is a damn good price!! Got one for about 1.5k, but another 400 or so for 4years warranty, hdmi, surge etc around christmas time for grandparents, as well as the bonus home theatre.

But wow, this is a great price for a great tv!

    • +1

Totally agree! I bought this tv when they were giving away the home theatre and avatar with it. It's a cracking telly! Totally recommend it. I was lucky enough to be able to sell the theatre back to the store for $500 (buy price was $1699 - $500 = $1199!!) haha!

  • Great price. I have the v20a and the picture is just flawless. I love this tv and recommend it to everyone.

New models out in a month. I'd wait :)

This model suffers from jerky 50 hz bug and floating/rising blacks

    • Glad to report that my P50VT20A doesn't exhibit the floating/rising blacks problem. Haven't experienced the 50hz bug either.

Granted the new models are coming, but with that comes a whole new point in the pricing cycle. If you're cashed up then sure, wait for the new model and be prepared to pay close to full retail or wait a few months after that before prices start to drop. Or, buy the about to be superseded model now at close to 50% of RRP, and enjoy the viewing experience. I've checked the specs, and imo you don't lose much to the new models.

      • I agree with all you have said. The main difference with the new model is there will be no 50" size, only 55" and 65" (according to cnet), plus the black levels should have finally reached the Pioneer Kuro standard which were just awesome. There are some additional internet features also.

      • The 50hz bug and rising floating blacks are there, it's well documented on the net. You must be one of the lucky ones that can't notice it :)
But the new models will have improved phosphors for fast switching, better black levels, a non ugly design (because let's face it - panasonic makes great tv's but their design is nowhere near samsung or Sony) and I believe the new glasses are using Bluetooth rather than infrared, which coupled with improvements in 3D tech will result in the improvment of crosstalk issues

Yes rrp will be high but they drop fairly quick and should see great bonus bundles by christmas if you can hold off till then!

        • Reports indicate the floating blacks issue arises with units produced earlier, and not so much, if any, for units produced later.

        • Can you post any proof of it on the VT20?

Mine doesn't have any of the issues you've mentioned, so I don't know where you got your info from.

        • VT20 floating blacks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zleOkakDNDU
          VT20 rising blacks Shows G20 but same on V20 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xrq95gvFaP4
          VT20 50hz bug: http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-tvs/1303416-panasonic-…
          (very well documented)

one comment out of the 1000+ replies:

"I experience the 50hz bug myself also with my 50VT20e and find it very frustrating. I don't know about this "double line" effect, because I think you may be reffering to the phenomenon which happens of the low fps (50) because anything under 100fps will exhibit this double line effect with ANY type of display.

But what is obvious of this 50hz/24hz bug is with the posterization/banding/false contouring (with green-red halos) at motion. Skin and faces in particular are so posterized with false contouring during motion that look like cartoon.

First of all, I would like to state that it is not only on 50hz, but on all the refresh rates except 60hz. It is reproducible with 24hz on blu-ray (which is the most annoying for me), on 50hz and everything in-between (23.976hz and 49hz).

It is so bad that I cannot watch anything anymore and I have turned my HTPC to 60hz permanetly, which ofcourse uses 3:2 pulldown with 24p and annoys me also.

The problems with this set, are getting ridiculous. It is/was supposedly the top TV (in production) in 2010 with the best picture, motion and colors. but now everything has fallen apart.

          • Lowest Black Levels = Rising black after 1300 hours to the same level as the competition and then rising even more.
          • Shadow Detail = Floating blacks that are incredibly distracting while watching dark scenes, completely destroying shadow detail.
          • High brightness = ISFccc modes (pro1 and pro2), Cinema and THX have a max brightness of 120cd/m2 (contrast at 60). 120cd/m2 is not in any stretch of imagination high
          • Best Motion and Film Experience at 24p = 50hz/96hz (24p) bug with ugly posterization/banding/green-red hues everywhere especially in peoples skins/faces makes it for a horrendous viewing and only 60hz is good with 3:2 pulldown (as does my cheap 6 year old sharp LCD).

I don't know about you but I feel disappointed by all of this."

    • Yep, not in my experience. There is some jerkiness with auto frame creation, but you just turn it off. It's silky. But yeah, if the new model is out in a month then prices are only going to get cheaper.

But if I was in the market for a tele now, I'd just grap this one.

  • Started with Samsung reduced their price in purpose for the next Gen and forced other brands to follow. Good for us.
    Jz grabbed a Samsung 3D 50' 7000 model for 1000 + 179 extra 4 yr warranty, love it!

    • where did you get that price from skytree?

    • Picked up a Toshiba 47inch fullhd LED for $1000 + $125 for 5 years warranty.

      • from where?

        • JB Hi-fi

  • Truly a bargain.
But since the new models out in a month, can you imagine how much this will drop(or the Samsung) when they can't get rid of it then?

    • +1

Logically could be like this but when I was there for the Samsung ones on Sat, sales told me sold out, checked around store only MQ has one left. Then I traveled 20KM to pick up from another store.
So I reckon the real bargain would go fast before the new models comes out.

  • I saw the 58 Inch 3d Model at Domayne Warrawong for $2400
I thought that was exceptional Value.
Id buy the panasonic NOW if I had a use for it, but MY current 50 inch 2d model is great
and I wont get any real value in selling it
Dont think Id need the newer model
Probaly just have more of the IPTV
Anyway current models are good value

  • We bought the non-3D version of this, the Panasonic TH-P50V20A 50" Full HD Plasma TV, for $1270 on Saturday from JB-HiFi, after negotiating.

  • nice

  • dont know the model and am sure its not 3d but i saw a 50 inch Panasonic full hd plasma from dick smith at pagewood today for $899

    • Probably the low end "U" model.

      • Agreed, I have seen the Panasonic TH-P50U20A for much lower than the Panasonic TH-P50V20A.

  • I decided to go for the Sony KDL46HX800 46" LCD/LED for $1528. This is also being replaced in a month or 2.
It just pips the Panny VT20 for picture quality, according to the reviews I've read.

    VT20 replacement - http://www.cnet.com.au/panasonic-viera-vt30-339310492.htm

    • Panasonic TVs are better.

      • Better than most yes, but the Sony KDL46HX800 was tv of the year. It is rated better than the Panasonic VT20. Normally, I would choose a Panasonic plasma.
        Read here - http://www.cnet.com.au/panasonic-viera-th-p50vt20a-339302594…
Take note of the last line of the review - "The VT20 is an excellent television, and we predict it will be seen as one of the best TVs ever. It just happens that Sony’s TV is that much better."

        • Not sure I'd be placing much faith in CNet reviews alone… they don't even quote any measured numbers so their analysis appears subjective at best.

    • I would have gone for the Panny. Seeing that the reviews are that close. $200 cheaper and the extra 4 inches is a no brainer. I lol at my mates 46" Sammy which looks significantly smaller than a 50"

  • My 50VT20A developed a fault in the 2nd month I had it, took approximately 2 months to get it replaced under warranty. Paid $2123.
