Used/2nd Hand Bike Share Bicycle (SYD)

So I've just returned from living overseas for 2 years with very little savings and was looking at getting a cheap commuter bike, nothing serious.

I have noticed in my area (Eastern Suburbs Sydney) that there are lots of stray bike share bicycles. Because I've been away I'm unsure whether the companies still exist (ofo, ReddyGo, Obike) and a thought occurred is it possible to purchase a used bike, especially if the company has gone bust.

I read an article that ReddyGo have away bikes in July, so I think I may have missed that boat.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

How did your number parking work out?

Might have a problem with other people trying to take it thinking it's still a share bike…

    • Yes thought about this, would probably give a cheap coat of paint to disguise its ugly past

Get on gumtree. There are literally hundreds of used bikes for sale on there. Take your pick to suit your budget.

The problem with the bike share bikes is that some of them have proprietary parts on them or require special tools. They are very heavy and useless single speed. They are usually impossible to repair or get parts for. Low build quality and all the rest.

There is a reason why people don’t steal them for their own use. Because they are garbage. Good enough for a quick ride between A and B, but no good as a daily rider…
