Can't blame them with how much the public endlessly bitches about everything they do. Every bogan I meet has some generic complaint about the ABC, when it's clear they don't watch or read anything they produce.

            • +40

@PainToad: What trash exactly? I read the news from about 10 online outlets in this country, and the ABC consistently reports well and accurately (if a tad slow).

Honestly not trying to start a shit fight here, genuinely interested in what is so bad about the ABC as a whole. I never hear anything specific other than "left bias", a claim that has been found to be false by several independent commissions now.

On a similar note I have to pay for the public healthcare of smokers. I'd rather not but that's how a society and taxation works.

              • +3

@sinewaves7: I'm guessing that they don't like it believes in climate change…

                • +2

@PainToad: You're extremely un-australian. Please go back to Siberia.

              • +2

@sinewaves7: Could you please link some of those independent studies? I'm genuinely curious

              • @sinewaves7: I find them ok for most topics. However they have a serious anti-Israel bias and, in this respect at least, are failing their own "accurate and impartial" objective.

                • +1

@penno2: Honest reporting.com is an astroturf hasbara outfit, virtually everyone to the left of Atilla the hun is considered anti Israel by them.

              • -7

@sinewaves7: Smokers pay $8b in tax revenue and cost $3b to the health system.. so nah.

              • @sinewaves7: ABC has been indoctrinated by Marxist ideology hello… Listen to hack on triple j and you can see the bias showing

            • +13

@PainToad: Boo hoo you pay a tiny portion of tax for a commercial free broadcasting service that air high quality childrens television shows without unhealthy fast food commercials in their faces every 7 minutes as well as broadcasting real award winning journalism such as Four Corners. When I say real award winning their awards are independent and not in house like New Limited making up awards to give to their own staff.

I'm pretty sure a larger portion of my tax goes towards things that I don't like or agree with that you feel are worthwhile. Wake up to yourself.

              • +6

@Joey Jo Jo: Things like Triple J also help promote local artists as well. A lot of people don't seem to understand the value of institutions like these.

                • +1

@Duck Mode: yes after posting I was going to edit and add promoting local Australian talent but figured anyone with more than one brain cell know this is fact anyway.

I could also edit and point out that when you're exceptionally right wing your view of everything else is bias as even opinions in the center or center right appear left wing from where you stand.

                • +3

@Duck Mode: plus triple J is a youth station. Old people shouldn't complain about it because they aren't the target audience, just like young people shouldnt complain about having their taxpayer money going to the more conservative ABC AM radio station.

Old people I tell you, they just whine and whine

                    • +5

@PainToad: So basically you don't like a service that millions of others do.

                      Again, wake up to yourself.

                      • @Joey Jo Jo: Triple J is the number #1 radio station in Australia. Without it, music artists in Australia would have nothing as the other stations play artists out of America and Billboard 100s. That's not an accurate representation of AUSTRALIAN music.

It's not till the song is massive on Triple J and won several awards does it even get a play on Nova/Kiss etc.

Some perfect examples would be Amy shark or Flume.

                        • -1

@neofelis: Yes, and unfortunately about 30%+ of what Triple J seems to play is degenerate ghetto rap from the US.

                          • +1

@MementoMori: It's not rap, it's hip hop, rap is sometimes used in hip hop music along with orchastral instruments such as Violin, Guitar, Piano, Keyboard and Cello along with other electronic instruments like turn tables and midi boards.

Hip hop has taken Australia by storm with artists such as Bliss n ESO, Illy and Hilltop Hoods, all of which are played daily on all major stations of Australian Radio thanks to the help of Triple J.

And No, Triple J plays Australian Hip-Hop with the exception of Kendrick Lamar who won Triple J's Hottest 100 and won 3 Grammys which is unheard of!

                        @Joey Jo Jo:

So basically you don't like a service that millions of others do.

ABC is almost always at the bottom of TV ratings. Clearly I’m not the only one who doesn’t like what they are providing.

Triple J is the number #1 radio station in Australia.

Lol. They aren’t number in a single capital city. https://www.radioinfo.com.au/news/analysis-radio-ratings-sur…

Australia would have nothing as the other stations play artists out of America and Billboard 100s.

Who cares? Again, radio is dying. I know no one under 40 who still listens to radio. Streaming is the future/present.

                        • +1

@PainToad: i am under 40 and i listen to triple j quite a lot. I also listen to their podcasts. they promote a bunch of great aussie bands that wouldnt have got the exposure otherwise. Just because you don't enjoy it doesn't mean other people shouldn't

      • +2

        Such a brilliant show. All I wanted was a season 4. :(

    • +5

Sounds like you need to chill out to some 72% savings.

Oh "24-hours limit for voting negative on comments is currently capped at 5". I wish I get more when the Liberals go crazy online as if they are the only ones paying tax and rest are on welfare!!

          • -2

@DAT: Feel free to come back tomorrow and neg away if it helps you deal with the scary concept of people having different opinions to your own.

            • +2

@PainToad: Thanks but I have more things to deal with than just differently opinionated people.

            • +4

@PainToad: "different opinions" doesn't mean this opinion aligns with the facts. This is why the nutbags in America can teach Creationism as an alternative to Evolution.

    • +4

you madman you actually said it ahaha!

    • +1

are they being taken over by SBS

    • -2

I didn't think they could go that far left but you live and learn. Well some of us do…

as a father to a 3 year old, wiggles stuff is NEVER on sale

    • Wiggles? Should've moved onto Paw Patrol by now, like my 3yo has. :)

      • My nearly 3 year old has gone the other way - was obsessed with Paw Patrol, now can't get enough of the Wiggles.

        • +1

Haha, must've got sick of the repetition.

      • My daughter is 2.5. She was very obsessed with the wiggles but she has recently moved to Pepa Pig. Can't complain as it's available for free on youtube.

    • +1

If it's helpful, just noticed there are a couple of Wiggles clothing pieces 50% off here, plus the sword on the next page.

  • +2

    So much spam

  • +1

Not a lot there. When the stores sold out I got some good Dr Who and Thunderbirds merchandise - now the clothing is almost non existant.

  • +1

    Will it get delivered?

    • +1

YES! Delivery to a Sydney address should be 3-4 days.

      • +1

        Thanks for the confirmation.

    • +4

      Yes, personally by Michelle Guthrie.

  • Thinking of getting some mp3 audio books.

    Postage is $7.50!?!??

    For digital content?

    • +3

Hi @Calcium these Audiobooks are mp3 CD's. This allows a book that may normally need 3-4 CD's to fit onto 1 CD.

      • CD? Ok. Had thought it was just digital.

  • +2

Scoop up those Best of Kamahl CDs before the get Ozbargained!!

  • +2

    No Chasers content :(

  • +2

Thanks, just spent $200 and hope it will be delivered quickly to WA via express post of $9.50.

    • Thanks @he88388 Express Deliveries will be dispatched no later than tomorrow

  • +3

Rip retail :( looks like future kids work in hospitality.

  • +5

    Nothing worth to buy

  • +1

Not much left unfortunately, especially BBC Commedy

    • +3

      Commedy - that's funny…

      • +1

        mmmmhhh that's good.

  • Im trying to add things to my cart but its not working. Does that mean its out of stock even though its saying ready to ship?

    • +1

Try opening the item in a new tab. That worked for me.

      • Thanks very much. This tip worked for me. Successfully bought 7 items in the end. Originally i could only add 1 and then it would dissapear.

  • +3

Be quick…my cart keeps having items selling out before I check out.

  • +1

Does this include any physical locations? There’s an “ABC Store” inside of a local bookstore and it comes up as a location on the ABC site store locator.

    • +2

Sorry but they are independent ABC Centres and they are not included. Discounts are only on the ABC Shop website

  • All the stuff I wanted disappeared before checkout…. not going to order.

  • Not gonna lie, always looked elsewhere for ABC stock even when they had sales in their stores. Ripoff.

  • +3

Have no idea how they survived this long with those prices.

      • +6

ABC Retail is part of ABC Commercial, the revenue-generating division of the ABC. ABC Commercial contributes all its profits to content producers at the ABC and receives no taxpayer funding.

  • +1

    Here's the highlight for me:

$12 for the special edition of Europe's new album.

$38 in JB and $40 in Sanity.

    That. Is. Special.

  • +1

I was lucky to be on my lunch break when I saw this and managed to get Wonder on Blu Ray, The Ready Player One Soundtrack and The Sooty Show Puppet. Everything went pretty quick, but that's understandable.

  • Don't tell me brick and mortar stores are closing too?

    • +2

ABC Shops all closed in 2015… remaining ABC Centres in bookshops will now also be wound down along with the online store.

  • -1

there any Blu rays or Seasons of anything worth Buying in this Shit heap ?

  • Y’all crazy still buying physical media.

  • UPDATE:
Wow this has gone much better than expected and a lot of stock has sold out quickly.

There are still some good quantities left in Books, Triple J products, Kids Clothing and Audio Books

  • +1

Still got some goodies, though a nice cookbook became out of stock while on the checkout page :(

  • -3

If only the ABC was closing down…

  • Now 80% off… still excluding Wiggles stuff (which is mostly all that remains!)
