  • showing $6.90 delivered for me

  • 1000 pieces only according to email.

  • Does this only boost or give the PC it's connected to network connectivity too?

    • +1

Didn't get you. It only boosts the signal. It doesn't work as a USB WLAN

    • It simply repeats an existing signal from an existing access point/router a second time.

When placed as far as possible from that signal while still receiving it you can effectively extend your range.

      BUT

because there's now two signals on the same channel is can halve the actual throughput.

If that's not what you're looking for a good long range access point or mesh network will actually work faster.

  • Whats the advantage of these or something like Google Mesh?

    • +1

It just like a repeater, boosts your wifi signal.

I keep it connected to a power bank when I'm in my bedroom to get more speeds. You can get a better signal, thus better wifi speeds :)

      • can they work in a chain?

        • Really I have no clue :/ Btw how do you want to use it?

          • @open4highway: Big house, concrete floors. If I can get these to relay signals up and down stairways, using multiple repeaters, than I can get good coverage.

I'm currently using Edimax power-line repeaters, but these have been unreliable.

            • +1

@froodh: I guess running 4-5 of these repeaters might increase interference as well. Not sure of it though. You'd be better off with buying a router considering most of the routers have repeater functionality embedded in them. You'll get more coverage and greater speeds from using routers rather than Xiaomi repeaters.

              • @open4highway: OK. I think I will just need to hard-wire some repeater points.
                Thanks for your input.

            • @froodh: I tried mine through two concrete slabs - from second floor to ground floor garage. Worked as if there was nothing in between.

      • Not always - if it's repeating the same Wifi signal a second time in the same frequency you will actually HALVE your speed.

    • These one are cheaper.

    • +1

These are cheap but I wouldn't rely on them for your scenario. A mesh network is easily going to be faster and more reliable.

  • I got one of this but don't notice any improvement in my wifi connection or internet speed.

    • I used it and always got 2-3Mbps greater speed than typical WIFI from router :3

      • +2

That's like eff all. I get larger variance just from running a speed test back to back.

        • if you want 200~300mbps improvement, look elsewhere…

          • +5

@Jamesx: And if you want to spend on a device that makes no discernible difference in speed, you've come to the right place.

    • +3

      Probably just harvests your data

  • +3

it works & is worth the price despite the shipping time

  • -3

Ever wondered why Xiaomi network devices are so cheap. All I can say is backdoor, Chinese style.
Be careful, there is a legitimate reason our banks and govt departments have a blanket policy of no Xiaomi or huawei on their networks.

    • +2

I hope you're being sarcastic. Xiaomi devices are cheaper for its capability to scale up the sales while profiting from marginal revenues over time.

      • It is a legitimate concern, why would there be sarcasm involved? It is true - our governments don't use them, for a reason.

        • +3

You mean for Huawei? Xiaomi don't operate in Australia so they would have never been a consideration for the government. Even more so when Xiaomi have no enterprise offerings.

        • +3

No governments try to use cheaper products. Even larger offices don't use them. It is for the mass population for a reason. You can't expect the same security level from a Cisco and a Xiaomi router.

    • Their devices are so cheap because they limit their profit to a maximum of 5%. If you choose to believe otherwise, that's up to you, but I'll keep using this and other Xiaomi products.

  • I hear you need to have an account to use this, setup is confusing and often defaults back to china server in the setup. I wouldn't be surprised if China is harvesting data… Just sayin.

    • who isn't?

  • I bought one of these and I found my router kept dropping off and had to constantly repower/reboot my router.

    • Weird. Which router did you use?

      • Telstra cable internet router. Not 100% sure if the drop outs were due to the amplifier but definitely dropped out less when I took out the amplifier

  • What's the usual price for these?

    • -3

      4 Xiaomi-sponsored minions voted this down…

  • I purchased one of these a while back, and it does great for what my purposes. My bedroom doesn't get the best signal nor speed and often drops off, with one of these plugged in between my bedroom and modem I have considerably better speeds and reliable connection.

  • Do these work with 5g connection?

    • No these are 2.4Ghz only, not 5Ghz.

  • +2

These do work, they aren’t magic because they sacrifice total wifi throughput to achieve higher range.

This isn’t normally a problem because in most households, as wifi throughput is normally much higher than internet throughput.

Also if you have lots of wifi networks in your area, these may all of these may be impacted too.

Bottom line is, if your wifi throughput is already marginal, this will make it worse. This isn’t normally an issue in Australia because we mostly live far apart.

  • +2

The total price is AU$7.59 including the shipping and tax.

  • I bought one of these last time and it never worked for me. Couldn't be bothered returning it as it was so cheap. It now sits in a drawer.

    • You can give it to me for free :P

      • Yes pls

  • Looks like it’s sold out.. bugger I missed it.

    • Hi, it is in stock again

  • +1

Hi, the Xiaomi Amplifier is stock again
