Amazon AU To Be Re Launched in November?

I haven't been able to find any other info than this story. According to the article Amazon set to "re-launch" the AU operation in November in preparation for holiday period with an extended range of brand products including TVs and smart phones.

Separate to this I had heard rumours of Amazon adding next day delivery to Melb & Sydney with Prime (like at no extra cost for next day) and that they are working out refrigerated transport for at least Melb & Sydney.

About time.. I have been waiting for Amazon to up their game for a while now. The only impressive effort I saw was their prime day offerings. I felt like something bigger was coming after the launch of their music service and their food and pantry offerings (Time for Coles and Woolies to be worried). They still have a long way to go though.

The move comes after a poor launch in November 2017 which several analysts have told ChannelNews was rushed and “poorly executed”.

mate, there was little to no items and third party sellers were restricted to sell on Amazon.com.au unless they attended the AU Amazon Summit.

You can't help but question how they've achieved the top spot considering how brainless their strategy was

It almost sounds like that typical gumtree seller who posts an item for above RRP even though its used, and damaged thinking magical fairys come out of no where and buy their stuff because it's on the internet.

  • Doubt it will be any good, if they got it strong the first time it'll probably be worse the second time.

"relaunch" is just advertising after you screwed up

Still haven't bought anything from Amazon au. The range and pricing is pitiful.

They’re really shooting themselves in the foot not doing a single thing about third party sellers listing items at ridiculous prices. Also with the change in GST and stopping AU users from buying via the US site they really should of just added in a forwarding service, maybe made it a Prime only thing, and then allowed AU users to buy anything that is on the US site.

At the same time has been some pretty decent deals and a decent range. Ive been able to buy a heap of quality US made tools via Amazon US all shipped free (over $49). We’ve bought a heap of clothes for us and kids like Bonds and stuff heaps cheaper than ever seen in Big W or anything. A ton (just about) of cheap as cat food, $250 North Face boots for $90, board games, toys, cleaning stuff etc. again all cheaper than could have got before I reckon or at least a really decent price.

The beauty of US Amazon is the huge range of novel items, spare parts, brands that aren't sold here, etc. Without those factors it's useless to me. Cheap prices are great but there are so many online stores with better prices for the exact same product.

To me most frustrating thing is going to Amazon US and seeing the “Today’s Deals” there. Pages and pages of actual deals on actual brand name stuff. Here the same couple of actual brands for weeks and this revolving parade of Aliexpress junk.

The other issue is the AU site just seems to have no one really running it. Or at least no one who cares or who shows any quality control. Just some of the bugginess:

    • Watched items from upcoming deals don’t work. On US site and App they give a notification to your phone via App when starting, here nothing. Contacted their support RE this months ago.
    • Upcoming Deals has been broken on website for a mont at least. You can see upcoming deals on app but not on site. Reported, no fix.
    • Voice Purchasing is a buggy nightmare. It just doesn’t work 90% of the time can’t find anything despite saying exact item you’re looking at in App and by that time why even try..
    • Upcoming Lightning randomly just don’t appear.
    • Lightning Deals randomly just get pulled before their end time without having sold out.
    • Their support is completely disconnected from the AU team and completely useless. Like inept is an understatement. Yesterday sent feedback via Alexa App about the voice purchase was trying to make not working. This morning wake to a email claiming voice purchasing not supported in Australia… have to send them the article on their site saying it is..
    • Allowing these ridiculous priced sellers to continue. “DA TRADE” “Glendora” etc.. like I swear these must be some eBay shills or something. 75% of the bad feedback you see for Amazon across the web (Facebook, ProduxtReview, here, Whirlpool) is about the insane prices for items they could get before or just for first time visitors - they shouldn’t have to know “oh Amazon is a marketplace”… Amazon AU have policies for sellers stipulating not selling at stupid high prices, not enforced at all and doing so much damage to them.
  • eBay for me, nah where ever isn't being jacked as much

  • Only decent deals I've found have been Huggies nappies.

    Everything else is a ripoff.

  • yeah I have often wondered why they aren't banning sellers that are hyper hyper inflating the price of things, and other system fudges.

Let's not forget it's your government that did this, not Amazon. If your government wasn't intent on levying a completely unfair tax you would still be purchasing from Amazon US.

Naturally idiots will cheer the government on with this attack and continue voting for them because cheering on the establishment is more important than losing their own money.

  • Yep their range and prices are useless. Why buy from Amazon, Chinese sourced products that you can buy from AliExpress with larger range and often cheaper prices. Add in the restriction of easy Amazon USA purchase, and the whole thing is a joke. I am often interested in buying pro style camera's etc, they have the items in the US but we do not warant the ability to purchase through Amazon AU!.

  • I'm still waiting for my item purchased last December.
