  • I've already booked my HKG flights for early november with Cathay, now Virgin have these and I have gold from the flybuys promo :(

    • bugger! Do another trip?

      • Will be but next year. Finally got the RTW business on points trip coming up. No more flights to book though

  • Is $404 historically lowest?

    • Pretty sure it is

    • No, lowest was VA $399 with discount code.

That's as cheap as a return flight from SYD-MEL

  • How many days is recommended for a solo male traveller.
Not, interested in gambling or shopping.

    • I went for 3.5 days solo and enjoyed. Like you don't care much for shopping or gambling in Macau. I still had plenty of things left to do though.

        Only 3.5 days!?!?!

I was going to go for about 10 days…

You'll be fine. You can go on a day to to China proper, you don't have to th gamble in Macau…much to do! If it was 407 from Melbourne I'd be buying a ticket for sure :)

Oh lordy…. 10 days! Too long for a solo traveller.

I've been to HK many times as a solo traveller, and you can cover alot of ground quickly when on your own.

I'd say 4-5 days in HK, day trip to Macau (a good trip even if not into gambling), and a day in shenzhen.

@ash2000: Yeah, I went for five days with my partner and I probably would have preferred a day or two less. That being said, that was part of a six country trip predominantly in SE Asia, so I didn't mind checking it out for a few days. I really did not like Macau at all, as I don't care for gambling and casinos - asides from that aspect, HK is better in every other aspect by a fair degree in my opinion. I would not recommend going at all unless you really like gambling, but I know others who disagree with that.

@NedStark102: Indeed, I wouldn't recommend Macau as a priority, but it was my 4th time to HK, felt I needed to do it! Enjoyed, the boat ride and the Portuguese architecture, despite its obvious disneyfication. Didn't go into any casinos.

@ash2000: 10 days isnt too long in hk, last trip there i stayed for 2 weeks

            • @myusername: There's no hard and fast rule…. what is a 2-day destination for one person, could be 2 weeks to another.

I always say, if in doubt, stay longer!

go as long as you can, there really is sooooo much to see in hong kong.

i've been 7 times over the last 8 years and always find some amazing to see over there, from amazing street food, alcohol buffet karaoke bars, amazing bushwalks and soooooooo much more

    • I would say 4-5 days. Go up to Victoria Peak and the Buddha. It might be worth looking at an ongoing cheap hop to somewhere else in Asia if you want to pad out the time.

Any deals to Hong Kong or Japan from 19 April to 29 April?

    • Hong Kong - mid $600s for a direct flight. Can fly in the $500s with a Scoot or Royal Brunei

Tokyo - mid to high $700s for a direct flight. Can fly in the $500s again with a Jetstar or Royal Brunei

      Hope this helps.

      • Oh wow those direct flights to Tokyo sound good. Can you point me towards those deals on flightfinder or iwantthatflight?

  • What is the price from Canberra? Is anyone aware of good accommodation deals in November?

  • Whats the promo code?

  • If booking through BYOJet for 3 people, can I book separately (same flight) and redeem $30 discount for each person. Anyone has done this? Thanks.

    • yes you can. However you run the risk of price changes to subsequent bookings

  • Hi OP, may need your help in finding deal to Philippines in mid/end march for 2 weeks. Arriving in cebu if possible. Thanks.

  • When transiting in Sydney from Hong Kong to Melbourne, can you get out of the airport on virgin Airlines?

    • I don’t see why you can’t as it’s domesric travel. I caught up with friends in the Tullamarine domestic termimal whem they flew from Sydney to Hong Kong via Melbourne and I flew in from Sydney to Melbourne

Cathay nowhere seem in these price wars. They are pretty much losing market share to VA because Qantas is holding.

Come on CX. I need you to join the war… CX has overnight flight which saves two days if you choose overnights. Which is important for me as I don't have many AL left.

    • these routes aren't priority to them

  • Has anyone booked tickets? theres only one third party left with OPODO ? never heard of them before, are they legit?

    thanks
