Hisense 65 P7, P8 or What?

Yes another "what tv should I get" thread.

I'm considering pulling the trigger on a Hisense 65 P7 or P8 on sale currently at JB HiFi. I'm not sure if the P8 is worth the extra $400? Or is there another tv out there I should consider at around the $2000 price mark?

Will be gaming (Switch and PC) and movies mostly.

I've been researching, but time is short and most of what I'm reading is conflicting or going over my head :(

Look forward to your informed advice all!

  • Im also looking at either of these, but don’t really have the money at the moment so putting the purchase off…

If you have the extra $400, the P8 having quantum dot should provide richer colours then the P7… if that not important to you, the P7 should still have great picture for the price.

    • It's actually a $480 difference I think. I'm not sure slightly enhanced colours are really worth it. Almost any tv will be an upgrade over what I currently have. I just want it to perform well for gaming and movies.

  • Most hisense TVs tend to take a very long time to boot out of standby, I'd recommend testing one first. They can take >45 seconds to wake up which can be a frustrating long time

  • I just ordered the 50” series 7. Then zoned backlighting and HDR sold me. 50hz apparently on the 50”, 100h on the bigger ones, but oh well. 50 or 60, what’s the difference.

  • What did you go with in the end OP?

I've been considering a P8. Which instore looks better over a P7, but perhaps I should spend slightly more and get a cheap LG OLED when on sale?

    • Hey I ended up going with a 65"P7 when it was on sale. I couldn't justify the price difference between P7 and P8 as there was hardly any difference to me even in the specs I couldn't see much. So far I'm extremely happy with the tv. I'll upgrade in a few years to Oled, hence going a bit cheaper now, but as I said, no regrets.

  • It was $1516 jbhifi but I got a further 4% buying jbhifi gift cards through my car insurance so I paid around $1455.36 I think. It went cheaper a week later at Harvey Norman.

  • Hey subwagon,

Just needed update on how your hisense 65" p7 performing..as I was gonna by 65p8 which was on sale in binglee but I have just missed the sale..as the TV as gone out of stock..now they have p7 but I don't know is it worth buying that..and while checking forums I red your dilemma.. And I am in the same situation you were in..thinking to pull trigger on p7.. But thought if you could give me an update on how the tv is performing it will be great help..my use is basically 80% to watch movie, 10% computer work..and 10% game in ps4 or computer. Plz let me know your view on the TV.

    Thanks and cheers

    • Replied to your pm, but yeah the TV has been great. No ragrets ;) Would definitely buy it again.

      • pm to me too yr feedback for p7 pls or just publish it here. Thanks

        • +1

It's been an awesome tv so far. Excellent pic quality. I use it to watch movies, stream YouTube for the kids and play Nintendo Switch. Breath of the Wild looks amazing and plays smoothly. I think it's great value for money. I definitely recommend it and will buy Hisense again in the future if I buy another tv. No regrats.

          • @subywagon: Thanks for the reply mate. Have you heard anything about Chanhong? another large Chinese TV manufacturer?

            • @compugrid: I've heard about them, but never really seen them recommended unless you just want a cheap tv. From my previous research Hisense seemed to be the only Chinese brand really producing a quality product and seem to be the best bang for buck tv, while all other Chinese brands were just cheap. I'm not 100% on this, so you should probably do some research yourself and start a thread on here and on whirlpool. Also depends on your requirements for a tv too. Good luck.
