Sadly , these freebies are caused by the decrease in Tafe courses enrolment.

    • Care to elaborate? I am thinking about enrolling but for victorians and it's going to be two years for a cert4 - part time night course.

I'm having second thoughts because I would like to get it done as soon as possible and since it already takes half as long as a degree I might as well commit to a degree.

I think it is more that employees are not taking on apprentices.
Too many want either skilled already, or more often zero skilled and paying them MacDonalds wages - and giving very little training. This is how all companies contracting to NBN are doing it, getting anyone off the street, zero skills, then a quick two week on the job training and expecting it to all go fine. Thats why NBN is such a mess now.

its the same with graduates too, a lot are not accepted in the roles you think you are learning for, or employees already want years of experience.

If you want to do it, go for it mate - trades are great honest, just getting limited. You can always use the cert 3/4 as part of further study. choose something you love. qldtrades are good that you may move from employer to emplayer over the 4 years or so.

  • Would have expected offerings in IT , web development, coding, in vic they offer cyber security as free tafe course.

Guess they all beat riding a scooter and delivering food as a career path .

    • its all for trade apprenticeships though

  • These courses all have to have a job to do them? e.g. apprenticeship?
