$5 Donation to Japan = $10 Donation through Jigocity

For every $5 donated through Jigocity, they will match it. Donate as many times as you want.

Seems like an awesome deal to me :)

Is jigocity the one that doesn't use a secure transaction for credit card purchases?

I'm not sure, but that's what I've been hearing.

    Good cause though.

  • is it safe? if its safe i will donate!

  • Are you kidding me? They do not stipulate a maximum limit to how much they are able to donate (which is standard practice in this kind of donation matching promotion). So if Bill Gates donates $1 billion through this "charity", they will match it? This is OBVIOUSLY A SCAM.

    • I doubt its a scam, Jigocity are quite legitimate. Obviously it counts on the fact that a chance of a $1billion dollar donation is not very likely.

  • A lot of the other deal websites did this for the cyclone, floods etc.. this year, they match your $5 for $10, up to a certain limit (think it was about $10000). We all hope that its legit, but really there is no way of knowing where your $5 is really going (and if they do donate your $5, if they are also matching it for $5). Risk…

Yeah don't know where your money end up … could be in their pocket.
Safe way is donate through woolies or coles and I'm waiting for them to jump on board so I can maximise the $$$

    • The fact that they have not specified a limit at all is what concerns me. It is also an extremely poorly developed website, which makes me think that they do not have the kind of money this kind of promotion would require. As you say, there is no way to know where your $5 is really going. Dodgy as hell and I would certainly avoid it and just donate directly to Red Cross.

  • if you don't feel comfortable giving to these guys maybe you can give to the Dx appeal here http://www.dealextreme.com/p/please-donate-for-japan-earthqu…, $5 donation where instead of matching your donation Dx will send you out a free flashlight instead, and Dx has been around for a few years and they've done charity appeals before so it's unlikely they will run off with your money

I'm buying stuffs from them but no way I do donation through them. As I said before you don't know where the actual money go.

  • Dx state 100% of donations will go to the Red Cross appeal

Why not directly donate to the red cross appeal then?

You know that there is a merchant surcharge involved whenever there is a Paypal transaction. In fact im sure Paypal is getting a ton of profit from non official donation channels.

i know for a fact that paypal takes a small slice of the pie from donations when i donated thru Kesenai NGO which is a non official charity site.

  • Do it through here: http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html

At least you know that it will be going directly to the JAPANESE Red Cross.

  • I doubt you'd be able to claim the donation on your tax either… I suspect Jogicity will claim both your and their donation on their own tax!
