  • Just FYI. Picked up one of these for around $410 using Gearbest, coupon and Cashrewards.

    No band 28…pass

    • +5

I don't think Band 28 means anything if you live in the city. Different story if you are out in the rural coverage area.

      • I prolly should google this but is there a website that shows you what areas are covered under which band?

        • I've been out in the country and haven't had any issues using the Optus or Vodafone network. If signals drop, it's because I am indoors.

          • @BadGiraffe: this - using Optus travelled bris<—>melb via Newell Highway. only drop out was brief ~5mins- in Pillaga National Park (mountains) this was during a severe fire season and there were active fires around so I was checking the phone regularly .

        • check tower near you, https://oztowers.com.au/Home/Query

I live in North West Sydney and bought a Xiaomi mix 2 in March…had no 4G coverage at my place so had to get rid of it quick…but my Samsung S8 is doing great comparatively.

        • +4

Mi mix 2 has all the bands used in Australia including band 28. You might have just had a defective unit.

Can we go one deal without someone mentioning B28. Really makes f all difference.

      • +4

To you it might not but you know there are people where it does affect them. Moral of the story ones personal experience may not be indicative of everyones experience.

        Just saying.

        • Perceived or an actual issue?

People dismiss it so quickly and see it as a deal breaker and feel compelled to express their stance without even saying why it's an issue (for them). I also wonder how many of them actually have a B28 phone.

Heck people even joke about it saying pass no band 28 on a frigging Xiaomi vacuum cleaner.

For a small percentage of the population it could be an issue. Yet there are so many that issue blanket statements about lack of B28.

Do your research, make an informed decision.

B28 towers can be found here:

Fact is if you live in the burbs you should be fine. If not by all means, research. Get a B28 phone. Just remember lack of B28 doesn't mean lack of coverage. You will still have 3G. Do some tests with your friends and family's devices.

2 years time we will be complaining about lack of 5G and forget about this B28.

            @Korban Dallas:

            Perceived or an actual issue?

Why does it matter to you either way? It's not like they are spending your money to buy said phone?

For a small percentage of the population it could be an issue.

Bingo. It is an issue. Maybe not for you but it is for some.

Do your research, make an informed decision.

Maybe they have. Have you asked every single phone buyer looking for a phone with band 28 if they did their research?

Fact is if you live in the burbs you should be fine.

Gonna let you in on a little secret. Don't tell anyone ok. There's people living further out than suburbia. Crazy i know. Maybe something to do with house prices. Just my out there theory though.

Just remember lack of B28 doesn't mean lack of coverage.

I seen at least 2 post here maybe more than that who did say. No b28 meant no coverage at all.

            TL;DR

people want whatever feature a phone can have. Not for you and i to decide what they spend their money on.

Seems nice, but LCD, no NFC and that giant notch just doesn't sway me

  • Anyone bought from this mob? Are they legit (they seem to have a physical shop but no ABN info)?

    • +3

we have ABN. ABN is 15625473387.

      • OP - do you open on Saturdays and can I pop around to your shop to pick up for this price? (Saves the postage fees for you).. Thanks

They are legit, I bought the phone through eBay, however did not get the adapter. I emailed them waiting for reply. Honestly it's a good phone and already had updates as well.

Extra 25 bucks for it to be in Sydney is good.. Rather than wait from Ali'ed from China.

  • How do we find the Xiaomi phones, OzB? Anyone here own one previously?

    • Typing on a Xiaomi MI6 right now. Great screen and CPU, NFC, dual rear camera, great battery life, all apps work and it has a fingerprint reader where it should be (below the screen). Paid around $450 over a year ago.

    • We're a Xiaomi family. Wife started with Xiaomi Redmi 3s, then A1 and just recently, she got Poco F1 (6GB/128GB model). The reasons that she needed to replace them on a yearly basis were:
      - toddler dropped 3s in the toilet
      - toddler kept on dropping A1 on the floor, so the screen is smashed to bits now (but I have bought a replacement for it, just need the time to repair it)

As for myself, I came from Nexus 5 (LG version) before getting Mi 5s which I still have to this day. When the wife's F1 arrived, I was a bit jealous. Note that, there are reports of a screen bleed issue, but I didn't see it. Also, even though the body is plastic, it's getting a case any way, so it's really a non-issue for us.
