Falling AUD partly to blame for both.

  • +4

Blood hell. When I read "64GB", "$1,529" and "price error" in the one title, I think the price has unintentionally been set higher than it should be.

You can buy a nice laptop for that money, one which will do a hell of a lot more than an iPad and have a hell of a lot more storage.

    • +2

"why pay more for features that you don't need?"

      How ironic

    • This price is without smart keyboard which is $200+. The new Macbook Air is probably a better option with 128G.

  • +2

wow i cant believe how expensive these things are

  • +3

Regardless of price people would spend their last money on this. Apple hype makes people blind.

    • +1

Nope, pretty sure most Apple customers aren't doing that.

They just have a different preference to you, there's no need to get so worked up about it!

  • +4

I can confidently predict the next iPhone is gonna cost $2000+

    Oh wait, they already do.

    • Actually I would assume their next iPhone will start from $2,000. If Apple fans can still afford this price, Apple will not stop price increase.

    • I think Apple is doing their fanbase a favour charging only $2 thou. Most folks in the western world can still swallow $2K pretty easy (regardless of what the product is). I suspect the price where some of their fans, that is a noticeable %, reconsider their purchase is around $3000. Heck, maybe the number is around $4000 considering $3000 can still be financed quite easily.

  • +2

Definitely a price error on Apple side.

  • Did online chat confirm the price?

  • +10

Asked the online chat, he confirmed it's a pre-order incentive and NOT an error. Go wild

    • That’s hardly normal! But doesn’t matter to us ozb, cheapest win!

    • So if it's an incentive, why wouldn't they discount all the other variants?

  • +1

Can you price match OW on pre-order items?

  • +6

Why the hell would people pay $1500 for an ipad these days

    • +4

Don't worry, the one I want is only $1449

    • Because life is so much simpler with less money….intuitive computer helps as well.

    • Will be buying the bigger model once the price goes down , happy with previous ipad pro and just bought galaxy tab s4 4G (64Gb) for $650😊

      • How did you get it for 650? Brand new?

        • Someone's unwanted gift on eBay.

          • @[Deactivated]: That's a good deal man!

            • @Zylam Marex: Ya, very happy with it. Will be replacing my iPad pro with new one once the price will be reasonable and start making scence.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yeah I'm really interested in the new Pro's too, a bit pricey but they are definitely worth it. I doubt anyone who gets one will be upset or disappointed.

  • +1

I remember my iPad Air 2 128G WiFi are much cheaper when it just released. These things getting much more expensive and I guess I have to wait for a real special or price drop.

    • +1

To be fair though, the iPad Air is equivalent to the iPad model that was released in March. The price range for that haven’t changed much l.
I’m not trying to justify the price of the pro range, but spec wise the non pro models are supposed to be inferior

      • +1

I still dream of the good ol' days, where there was only one iPhone and iPad… and the dollar was at parity.

        • and the dollar was at parity

And therein lies the issue these days.

  • +3

Price is coming $1749 at checkout. Seems like they fixed it.

    • Just tried, still at $1529.

      • I love spending money but wont be paying for any tablet more than $1500 before 2020 and I will laugh if the storage is less than 256 GB😎

  • +8

$2869 for the 1TB 12.9-inch with Cellular. hahahaha..

    • Go on … It's only money; you can always print some more.

  • I hope this goes through, they took they money out of my PayPal account already. Fingers crossed.
    Baa-Baa.

  • +1

    Professional shoppers united!

  • I would be happy to fork out $150 for a new computer. My current one is a replacement they gave me because the original computer that costed $400 five years ago (with additional $120 for extended warranty) broke right before the end of warranty.

  • +1

if your not in a rush wait for a optus deal usually they come out with pretty good offers that end up being paying next to nothing for included data sim

  • It looks like they fixed the price error and it's back to normal

  • +3

    $1800 for an iPad….wowee

  • Hello 2014, is that you?

Who buys these things in 2018?

    • Hi, how are you?

There's still no decent competition so they still own the market and probably nothing will change in 2019 either.

      • Ever heard of Chromebook tablets or surface?

        • +7

Do they offer all-day battery life? What about longevity of the products like software updates and hardware quality? What about software + hardware integration and optimisation? Do they have the lightest weight for portability? Does the OS respect your privacy? How easy is it to get technical support for these products?

          • +3

@Friendly Troll: Friendly troll is friendly and informative!

          • +1

@Friendly Troll: Good points but you've surely got to be joking about "respecting your privacy"…

            • +4

@diazepam: Apple are trying to differentiate themselves from google with this, so I would say no, not joking.

          • +1

@Friendly Troll: My Chromebook lasted the whole day NGINX training while other guys scrambled to sort out their charger problems for the iMac pro (integrated charger plug could not fit in the socket). In terms of hardware quality my colleague accidentally spilled water onto the keyboard. Then I comforted him that it is all good as it was designed to handle that. Yes it is still going string. Updates are done every month or so. It is not the lightest but among the lightest consider it has full size keyboard. Not sure if the OS will spy on me. Can anyone confirm if Apple iOS or ChromeOS spy on people? I guess there are websites spying on people - it does not matter which device you use. (With Chrombook I run tripview too ;) )

          • -2

@Friendly Troll: Great "all day" battery by stripping back functionality. My watch battery lasts way longer than my phone, doesnt make it better.
Longevity is actually not good. Updates are useless if they make your device too slow to use.
Surface is light af. Ipad only has 105g on the surface 4. Not worth the loss of an actual OS.
            Privacy? Lmao.
Technical support? Doesnt outway the list of negatives.

        • +2

          Lol Chromebook…

      • Theres no competition because no one gives a shit about tablets anymore.

        • Yeah "no one"

        • That’s true, that’s why everyone else sells sub-par rubbish.

  • +1

man the prices of these things inflate so much every year

    • Yeah, they sell 0.5% more phones but record profits as the average iphone now sells for about $800 (usd, across all markets I suppose)

  • +14

$1749 should be the REAL price error!

  • +13

Thanks to the goose that went onto chat and alerted them.

    • That’s just hardly normal

    • Seems like they track us coming from ozbargain.
It probably sets off Gerry's own personal 'professionals' incoming alert system
Next time, we should just enter the url manually.

  • +2

Tempted by the redesign but NOPE after checking that I bought the 10.5 last year for $737. It's nice but not double the price nice.

  • +1

Has anyone actually ordered this instead of complaining how expensive it is??

    • why not, with previous amex offer giftcards purchase,

      I got further 20%off + TRS,

      so almost $1000

      • Won't happen.

  • If they actually dropped the price abit I’m sure more people would buy it, how else could you possibly rack up sales at his price!

  • I'm no Apple fan boy i don't even own an Apple product. But i must say these A12 chips are beast they wipe the floor with any thing Qualcomm has to offer. Which makes them leaders in the mobile market.
Once you get to laptop and tablet size PCs its a tad harder for the A12X but it still competes with Intel's low power chips. I think price is what holds the Ipad pro back a tad.

Any ways once Intel moves to 10nm process should be smooth sailing for them they will wipe the A12 of the charts. It will be interesting to see how AMDs 7nm chip compete with Apples.

    • I wonder how the SD 855 will stack against the a12. Not sure how apple a12 looks like a generation ahead of others. Didn't own a apple for a while and my experience was they were not that much faster than other from memory.

      • +1

I think Qualcomm is falling into a trap probably having issues getting more speed from the single cores and are just adding cores to make up.
As for speed we probably have more than enough processing power as is in modern phones. The ipad i can understand cause it can be used as a work station and for media creation.

  • +1

A tablet at gaming laptop pricing, yeh not for me.

Picked up a Xiaomi mi pad 4 for around $300, which suits my stingyness while performing excellently.

  • +1

I wonder if we'll see a repeat of Gerry Harvey crying poor about 'professional' OzBargainers taking advantage of the pricing error.

  • +3

how on earth do iPads costs more than a top range gaming laptop? iPad is still no where as powerful with benchmarks with laptop and they are charged premium. Maybe if Apple actually used better hardware, but they refuse to as they can use old specs and still win with its marketing strategy.

Look at for instance Microsoft surface costs nearly the same and its hardware is a beast, Apples decline of sales are starting to wither, I will never understand steve jobs and all the ones that work for him.

    • Not sure iPad Pro is ‘no where as powerful’

Not sure ms surface hardware dominates iPad Pro.
(It would depend on the surface model).
But iPad Pro arguably has better screen 120Mhz and better camera…

Certainly though… iPad Pro (to my knowledge) runs mobile versions of software…. if that’s all you need then perhaps iPad Pro is all you need too.

      (I didn’t neg you).

  • Honoured?

    • ..to me you :D

    • +1

I'll wait until 7th of November and I'll report back here…

Cellular is a pretty unnecessary feature. If you carry around your phone hotspot is good enough.

    • +4

My phone is WiFi only so I always get an iPad with cellular

    • +3

Not sure why you got negged. Its a valid point.
I have cellular but have found it unnecessary.

      • +4

Didnt neg lowlifesphere. However hotspotting on your phone can drain the phones battery faster.

    • +1

How's your battery life on your phone? I turn on hotspot and my battery depletes quickly (for over 1 hour constant use) :(

      • Mine lasts a while with hotspot. Each to their own but I think the extra cost and hassle of getting another plan/sim for your iPad isn’t worth it.

        • +1

I'm on a $50 / year sim for my iPad, worth it for me just to keep mail flowing in etc. When traveling also it's handy to keep my sim in my phone and buy another for the iPad for the country I'm in. That and the battery drain of always hot-spotting isn't great. Even my Macbook annoys me at the process of having to tether (and it's dead simple / can be done without taking your phone out of your pocket), next time I buy a laptop for portability it better have always on LTE/5G built in.

          • @[Deactivated]: I have been wondering about this 5G also. I was told by a friend that problems were identified and it will not be anywhere as reliable as it should be. But, seeing as it will soon be here, I agree, you would expect all new gear to be 5G ready.

            • @JediJan: I heard 2020 before we have 5G equipment reliable and efficient enough to be used portability without an enormous battery. Apparently the current 5G modems run hot and use a lot of power. So looks like next year will be mostly for fixed connections.

              • @[Deactivated]: Sounds like a few concerns there. Won't be in a hurry to upgrade anything to 5G. Even the Galaxy Tab S4 is not 5G enabled (made an enquiry as tempted by promotion … ends 18 Nov … for free JBL Duet NC headphones; $350? value. Not decided though). We tend to make our tech last as long as possible, so hope 4G will be available to us for a very long time! Never buy latest model mobiles etc.

We use a Vodafone pocket wifi for portable internet when travelling; has worked well within Aus … apart from more remote west coast Tasmania. We purchased several 180 day 35GB Vodafone data sims some time back for $20 each (in lieu of $50). Mother still waiting for NBN so making good use of those too.

      NO GPS

  • Why pay so much to watch porn

  • Computer = Mouse + Multi-monitor among other things ….this ain't :)

    • Obviously ;)

    • Going to get one of these and use as a second monitor for my Macbook :o Pricey way to do it but.

  • Anyone still waiting? I called up and they say its on back order. lol

    • Same boat. Said they have to wait for stores to get them in stock before they can dispatch and it's entirely in the hands of Apple. Now how long to give before someone blinks.

      • Still no progress so far :(

        • Just gotten an email update, looks like have to wait until 19th of November, 2 weeks from now!

  • +1

Anyone got any updates? I chased up and finally got a confirmation is coming my way, just waiting for the Auspost tracking number.

  • Received my parcel earlier this week, but it turned out a Wi-Fi only version instead of cellular version! The order confirmation clearly states that my item is cellular version!

Beside, the carton box was opened before and belongs to 256GB version!

Should I complain to any HN store or have to contact their online team?
