Do You Clean Your Shower?

Just curious about whether people clean their showers, and if so, how often. My family never really cleans ours, it's just soap scum after all lol. I honestly thought showers cleaned themselves until my girlfriend called me a pig, guess I just never really notice the soap scum on the glass doors.

    No, showers clean themselves

  • Pretty sure someone IS cleaning it if not you'd see the mould in a few weeks.

    • Nope, there is definitely nobody secretly cleaning my bathroom. But that being said I don't know what an acceptable standard of cleanliness for a shower is, so I assume I have just been ignoring any mould build up? lol

The walls you can get away with. It's the floor that gets mouldy with gross pink mould

I got a a squeegee from Bunnings. After each shower I wipe down the walls and the floor and push the water to the drain.

Doing this, I don't have to do a weekly shower clean and no more mould.

Somebody told my wife to wipe down the shower after every use and it will never need to be cleaned.

It has ruined my showering experience for me.

    • I did this with that rubber blade thingy (squeegee? had to google the name), takes literally less than 30 sec

yeah but it's 30 sec naked and no longer with the warmth of a nice hot shower. Worst experience of my life, every day of my life :(

(Yes, life is really good in general!)

So 60s per day assuming you both shower once per day. About half an hour per month.
It's more efficient to just spend 10 minutes cleaning your shower once per month! Plus you're not sitting there naked and shivering every day.

Does your wife get out a Strap-on too? "whiped"

      • At least spell it right…

        • nah whats the point of two p's , things change over time

My housekeeper does all that stuff. Glass is crystal clear before every shower.

To actually answer your question, I clean my shower every 2-3 weeks as time allows. Do it. You won't believe how much better it is to clean yourself in a clean environment.

    Also, re: two towel method.

If you clean your nether regions thoroughly, I don't see why you need two towels.

  • OP do you clean your towels too? I remember reading a book by Scott Adams (Dilbert guy) where he claimed that the towels were cleaner every time he uses them.

I think it was this book: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/God's_Debris

  • Mould, soap scum..
The purpose of a shower is to clean the dirt off, so yes, showers get dirty, mould grows, and soap scum accumulates.

A bottle of Exit Mould does the trick, spray half hour before a shower, jump in, shower and clean, done.
    Once every few weeks.

Not hard, and required cleaning if you're renting.

    • Isn't exit mould just diluted bleach?

      • Well it is bleach. Diluted or not, I'm not sure.
But just giving the OP an idea of what to use to clean the shower with.

        • I would rinse very thoroughly before stepping into the shower. Also exit mould will bleach dye out of towels, face washers etc. I'd also make sure pets and children kept out of the bathroom when applied. Just precautions.

Has anybody else wondered why we pay so much for diluted bleach?

Well I can testify that pool chlorine isn't a miracle cure for making neglected showers shine.
        That was disappointing :)

        • Have you tried just diluting domestic cleaner (domestos) and putting it into a spray bottle?

  • Open ur shower door and windows, so you only have to clean it once a month.

are you also one of those people that wash your dishes and then just wipe them instead of rinsing

doesn't urinating in the shower clean it?

    • +2

Yeah, it's a great way to clean off the shit stains on the sides!

  • I find a high pressure washer can do a pretty decent job of the shower and avoids all the grout scrubbing. Just remember to remove all your bottles of shampoo, shower gel, etc. otherwise they will go flying.

    • did that years ago at a rental, feed the hose through the window and set the gernie up in there

      • +1

Yep, that's exactly the approach I used. Came up great!

  • The cleaner cleans my shower.

  • You don't clean your shower, your shower cleans you.

  • lol wow

I don't clean my shower, because it doesn't get dirty.

Whilst im showering i make sure soap scum doesn't sit on the shower screens or floor.

I also have a shower all to myself.

    • This is my situation as well, I was hoping I'd find someone in the same boat.

  • OP, do you also not clean that part of the body, because um .. it cleans itself every visit to the loo?

  • $75 a fortnight, my cleaner does the deed so i dont have to argue with my wife about who's going to clean the house…

    • Same here. Cleaners are well worth the $ for the quality of life improvements alone.

    • Where do you find these cleaners? Any recommended people?

  • Buy the supersonic brush fro aldi, amazing
