Banking Vs IT - What's More Reliable?

With 5 years experience working in finance from home loans, personal finance , and insurance i have seen some good days in banking, but with the royal commission cracking down whether its a positive or negative change it doesn't matter the banking industry is going through a very confusing and tough time for both the consumer and the people who are helping the consumer, i have seen the rise in cyber security, software and hardware sales, and what my question is i'm interested and were do i start, what do i need to know in the digital, i.t etc industry, now i know there will be some people telling me to stay away but in life i want to be happy make good income, being in a industry going through so much change and cutting of commission i don't know if its were i want to be in the future.

Do you need to study any thing in particular to fall into SaaS or even working in sales and account managing in the i.t industry.

I'm open the to the pros and cons in the industry, i know its a saturated industry but so was banking when i first moved into it.
Thank you

I imagine that you wouldn't want to come to a full stop at any stage.

Go do a Computer Science degree.

    • I'd say it's not really needed for a sales or account management job.

  • I doubt if the consumer is going through a tough and confusing time at the moment since the Royal commissions findings. Hopefully the banks will be more reliable now.

    • in some cases this is true but if a consumer has bank statements showing they only spend 250 a week on groceries but we turn around and say no that's not true you actually spend 400 a week on groceries I think that's a bit unfair for someone who has no kids and is married which he would share those sort of expenses…

    1. Install Grammarly on your browser. It will help you!!

As for your question, I am really unsure what it is. You probably don't need a CS degree and if you have customer service experience then you could go into sales quite easily. Sales are mostly being knowledgeable about the product.

I think you need to be clear on what you're looking to do. Neither sales nor account management are really IT jobs. You might be working for a firm that specialises in IT solutions, but selling software is no different to selling home loans. If you're looking to do sales, then the fact that you have previous experience in sales should be your greatest asset. I'd presume that going into accounts management would require a degree in the field (perhaps accounting, but I don't know too much about that).

For what you're looking to do, I wouldn't do a CS degree. You'd do that if you want to become a developer.

    Investigate the term case sensitive

Computer industry regularly goes through change, so don't expect that to be any different.

    • If anything, it is the industry that sees the most change year on year. Most programmers certainly aren't working the same way they were 3 years ago, or the 3 before that, etc. etc.

  • Your first paragraph is one single sentence, just FYI.

  • why niot consider to work in Banking I.T. department? There are going to develop the FinTech soon too.
