Good buy, if white fits your decor

I'm invested in KEF's T series, but would get these if I wasn't. I have some bookshelves of theirs (BT3) for my PC and love the Q sound.

  • is there any reason that you could not buy 2 of these kits, for 2front + 2back spkrs? I have the AV receiver (Sony STR-DN1080) but no spkrs, so looking at options to get a good setup started.

    • You can, it's just wasted in surround modes. It'd be nicer if you run all channel stereo though….

      • I'd be looking to add other sprks (up to 7.1 capability as supported by the AV) - just considering these as the front L/R and rear L/R.

    • There is no reason why you can't run these speakers as fronts and surrounds.. I would suggest adding a centre speaker to the system as well (Q Acoustics 3090c) which we do have available in the white to complete your set, depending on how large your room is and how far away your speakers are from the screen. The centre channel will focus on producing the dialogue and make it much clearer in comparison to not having one :)

      • are there also additional units in this range/style up to the 7.1 capability supported by the STR AV?

        • We also have the 3010 bookshelf speakers available in the white which are also a great pair for height and surround speakers, however the subwoofer is only available in the graphite and walnut, and the 3020 bookshelves are only available in black gloss and walnut colours.

Good thing about subwoofers is that they don't need to match the rest of the speakers as they only produce the low frequency sound. Ideally you want the 7 speakers to match up tonally with each other.

    • Have you been out to Eastwood HiFi yet?

      Rhetorical question.

I told you already, I have a baby now, I can't buy these speakers. must resist, go away.

    • But the price is so good… are you sure you want to miss out? :)

      • Trust me I want these bad but can't justify it when I can't even play my Q3020 sets. Besides, I have graphite version and white will not do well.

  • Hey OP,

I just moved into my new home, and looking to start a good sound system (currently have a cheap Philips soundbar).

Planning to do a 5.1 but will probably only start with 2.0 then 3.0 / 3.1 and later on add 5.1.

Read a lot of positive reviews about 3050, but most were about music quality.

I'm planning to use it for 50/50 music & movies, would it also be good for movie ?

Also can you recommend any AV Receiver ?

    Thanks!

These speakers are amazing as an all-rounder. When using them as a 2.0 set up they do really well in placing dialogue in front of effects, but they also have a great bass level for a pair of floor standing speakers performing on their own. You can't go wrong with these for the money you're spending :)

      • 44 Hz is not a great bass level for floor standing speakers.
