Nice idea but almost all boring macro lagers…

  • +8

that is indeed a poor line up

this is something the grinch would drink during December ;)

  • Even if it was a good line-up, they'd still be charging a silly premium. Plus, who has got a fridge big enough to throw in a whole slab?!!

edit - looking at the contents, I'm now changing my mind a little… it's a decent selection of regular lagers from around the world.

    • Indeed.

    • +7

Who needs cold food when you can have cold beer

    • +2

who has got a fridge big enough to throw in a whole slab?

Errrmmm… who's got a fridge that DOESN'T have space for at least one slab?

I have a dedicated 400L fridge just for beers, cider and mixers.

    • +3

It's an Advent box. you're supposed to have 1 per day starting on 1/12 and finishing Xmas eve. You only need room for 1 beer.

      • If these were actually Hoppy beers and not lagers you'd want to keep them refrigerated.

  • +1

    Looks good to me.

  • +3

The best AB InBev beer money can buy….

  • wonder if the wine obe is any good

  • +5

Meh. Rather a slab of a locally brewed IPA or APA

  • +6

    ALDI Rivet Advent Calendar
    24 cans for $26.99 in VIC/WA or $28.99 in NSW/ACT

    • 24 cans of rivets? Let me get my tools ready.

  • +4

    Hoppy* Christmas!

*May consist primarily of lagers with negligible hops and crappy malt adjuncts.

There are about 3 beers on the spoilers list that I'd be OK to drink at a BBQ if they were the only option. The rest of the selection makes me want to throw up in my mouth. A lot.

    • +1

      Special boy!

    • +4

Nothing worse than a pretentious beer drinker.

      • +4

Sorry, I just like my beer to actually taste like beer, not sweet syrupy malt substitutes.

Seriously, as a company with German heritage Aldi ought to be embarrassed by what they're offering. Why not some mixed cases of Weihenstephaner for a reasonable price instead? Maybe chuck in some Duvel as a neighbourly gesture? Anything but this macro lager pee would be great.

        • Everyone has a different taste but you lost me when you preferred Weihenstephaner over Hoegaarden, which is on the list. Hoegaarden is (IMO) one of the better wheat beers and would fit your 'neighbourly gesture' just fine, as it's from Belgium, just like Duvel.

          • +1

@Kontiki: I never said I preferred Weihenstephaner over Hoegaarden? Hoegaarden is one of the three beers on the list that I like.

Whether I prefer it over Hoegaarden would probably depend on which Weihenstephaner it was. Korbinian would certainly win out for me; the Hefe not so much.

  • So if you are in QLD you are out of luck? No way of getting this offer? Does Aldi ship to QLD?

  • +1

Any soft drink advents for non drinkers

  • +3

Terrible beer lineup. Wonder what it'd set you back to buy all of those individually and tack on the discount that Dan's offers?

  • +1

    more floppy than hoppy

  • +12

How is this getting upvotes? It's $40-$50 per carton beers in a $60 variety pack.

    • +1

Because it always costs more to buy singles.

      • +1

You'd think it's rocket science or something. How da fook do people not understand!?

        • -1

I admit, I didn't consider anyone in their right mind would buy any of these beers in singles deliberately.

          • @DonWilson: Yeah but to obtain all of those beers you'd have to buy them all in singles so it's expensive in the end. Or you go buy 24 cartons of average piss to so you don't pay singles prices?
I know a few old blokes that would love this, they'd even think it's a bit schmancey pancey because they don't know any better.

  • +14

$60 for a slab of crappy beers is not a deal.

    • Glad that everyone has a different taste.

    • +3

You're right on the crappy beer part, there's atleast a couple of decent ones there though. Hoey's aren't bad. Plus, it's still a good deal. I know heaps of people that drink terrible beer that would love a selection like that. Especially blokes 40+ yrs old that love a beer.

  • -1

This is just aldi catalogue, no bargain

  • +2

I'd definitely prefer to pay more and get the Boozebud one. Sure it's $100 but at least I'd drink them!

    • Carwyn Cellars for 150 is my go.

    • +3

@Whitelie……$75 using 'advent18' coupon with free delivery. No brainer.

  • I don't get the bargain here? Shitty beers for more than the retail carton price.

A terrible present for a craft beer lover.

  • Still not alcohol available in supermarkets in the Nanny state. aka QLD. Everything else is fine though, but don't try and sell alcohol in a store in QLD. zzzzZZ If we could only direct the daylight saving outrage into something else

  • +2

The boozebud one is $75 delivered if you use the code that someone posted here. Much better value

  • -1

Do people just upvote this coz it’s aldi?

Pretty no deal price for a slab

    • -4

      It's not a "slab", dumbarse. It's 24 x SINGLE beers at $2.50 each.

Tell us - where can you buy single bottles or cans for $2.50?

      • -1

Do you think Aldi are paying more per beer in order to create these 24 packs?

As a customer you're still paying for 24 beers, so I think it's reasonable to compare the price to what you'd pay for a carton / slab of what you'd actually like to drink, seeing as 80% of what's on offer is comparable to cat pee.

        • I don't think this is much of a deal either, but;

          1. Aldi almost certainly pay more to make a variety 24 pack, as opposed to buying whole slabs from individual suppliers. I thought this would be obvious - potentially lower buying power for smaller quantities, packaging etc.

          2. It is not reasonable to compare the price of this pack to a straight slab of a single beer. You do realize that the whole point of this product, and the perceived value for many, is that it has 24 different beers (that are significantly cheaper than buying them individually)? Novelty or not, there are a lot of people who enjoy lager and enjoy this sort of thing.

          • @cathole:

            1. You don’t know this to be true. It’s almost certainly true it would be lea efficient to serve a slab with variety over homogeneous beers yes, but it won’t necessarily pass to retailer. It could be the beer company happy to get extra sales for making this a Xmas treat.

            2. If it’s not fair to compare selling 24 bottles of beer with 24 bottles of beer, what is a fair comparison?
I note you upvote the comment of comparing this to selling one single beer, can I buy a single beer here?

            • @cloudy:

pretty rare to find any places that sell singles (or multiple different singles) at carton prices

I'm sure if you do the maths on somewhere like Dan Murphys of the same combo it will be more than $60

              • -2

@SBOB: But the point is, they are not selling singles, because you can’t buy it in singles. You are buying carton quantity. You can’t pick and choose which beers you take. You take and Leave the box of 24.

Just because they mix a box up doesn’t make it “not” a box.

            • @cloudy:

              1. Come on mate, this is a business. No one is going to incur the costs to develop and release a new product out of the kindness of their own heart, just for 'extra sales'. Lmao, what country do you think we live in mate?

              2. I think this is just a disagreement in what we perceive as value. You obviously think the product being sold sucks, others do not. It's fair to compare this to similar mixed/variety packs, and when such a comparison is made, this deal can be viewed favorably.

              • @cathole:

                1. We live in a world where manufacturers will suffer margin erosion for profit maximization. Extra sales utilizes their capital more to churn out lower margin products to increase their ebitda line not caring about capital sunk in. But hey, I guess the fair dinkum Aussie probably just drinks this beer with their mates and think they bought 24 beers singley even though it came in one box.

                2. I don't think this product sucks, I think the argument people use, are fooling themselves in believing this is a great deal. It's common pyschology, feel better about what you buy if it is a bargain, I mean how many people on this website has bought something they don't even want/need/thought of, for the sake of nabbing a bargain?

      • +3

Lol what’s with the name calling?

Selling 24 “single bottles” in one go as opposed to selling 24 bottles is no different.

I can’t buy a single bottle of this deal for $2.50 can I? If I can’t why do I need to answer your question? It’s clearly not a fair comparison,

Luckily for me, I don’t need resort to slagging others to add weight to my argument

  • +2

Poor value. Go buy a few nice 6 packs of craft beers instead.

They have to be pulling our legs calling it Hoppy Christmas with as these lagers.

  • I'm waiting for boxing day. It will be half price. Bargain then!!

  • "Makes a great gift for a Hoppy Christmas!"

How can it be a Christmas gift, it's meant to be consumed before the 24th :P

    • -1

Also, is it hoppy at Easter aswell? English autism intensifies.

  • stupid liqueur laws … not in SA

$60 is not a lot of money to spend to potentially try some new beers

  • I bet someone gets me this for Christmas :(

  • +1

Definitely one for the lager drinker! Won't be a Hoppy Christmas with this lot!

  • Certainly not a "Hoppy" Christmas, big pass from me, far from a deal.

  • whats the regular price?

but seriously, don't buy this for someone who actually likes beer, most of these are shit
