    It's because the factory got sold off to a new older in Brazil I believe.
    Original owners will always look out for brand quality.
    New owners will always look out for profit like in any sold businesses :(

    However, $10 vs $20+ back in the days means u can buy 2-3pairs for the same 1 pair!
    And way better than $2 no-brander at Kmart/BigW/Cotton On/list-your-retailer which I got a cut from the band the first day I worn them!
