Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 4GB / 64GB Smartphone $270 Delivered (Grey Import) @ DWI Digital Cameras

Very decent midrange phone from Asus. This one is rarely seen outside of India, and competes with the popular Redmi Note 5 Pro / midrange Nokias etc.

Pros: 6 inch screen with nice resolution and no notch, dual sim AND Micro SD, headphone jack, decent performance and clean-ish UI. Huge 5000mah battery

Cons: Bit plain looking, camera is only decent (improved with the Google camera API), possibly not much software support.

Yes to NFC, unknown if it has Band 28 (Gets confusing with different variants, keep in mind this version in the Phillipines model)

  • I think I have the old version of this phone bought 2 years ago. Very good battery, but dual SIM don't work simultaneously.

    • Yeah I had an ancient one as well, the second slot was only 2G which is pretty useless!

This one claims you can use one on 4g and the other on 3g at once.

According to Asus this model (ZB602KL) doesn't have USB-C port or NFC

GSMArena only has specs for ZB601KL which also states Micro-USB port and No NFC

Otherwise good mid range phone with huge battery

  • Will the 2nd SIM slot for this allow simultaneous use with a MicroSD card?

    EDIT: Nvm

I have Asus Zenfone MAX (ZC550KL). Very nice battery but poor camera. Second sim stopped working when 2G was shutdown.

The phone could work as a powerbank for other mobiles as well.

I use that mobile as a downloader now as it supports a 64 gb SD card.

I thought only the 6gb ram version had NFC. That's what the official site says.

I don't think, this one has NFC.
The one with 6GB RAM has NFC and B28.
I bought ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 (ZB602KL) 6" 6GB / 64GB back in August for $334.90 icl.GST from qd_au on ebay, when it was on sale + discount code. Got it from them within a week.
Their price has gone up though. Looks like dwi-digital-cameras currently sell it cheaper than qd_au.

Really happy with the phone. Works great. Battery lasts forever.
Has two 3G-4G SIM slots and micro SD card slot.
    Has NFC and B28.

The only small issue I had was that the camera app wasn't great. However, this can be easily fixed by installing one of the following apps:
    - OpenCamera + Camera 2 API - I get very good results.
    - Manual Camera Pro: DSLR Camera HD Professional - I get great results with this app (better than with the above app). Works a treat even in Auto mode.

I bought this case which protects the phone and it looks really nice too:

    • Why not use the gCam ports? You can find it on the xda page of the device.
Is the sim card slots 3g/4g standby or 4g/4g?

Edit: Link with gcam port download https://forum.xda-developers.com/asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1/the…

      • I installed Google Pixel 2 camera and tested it too. But while it gives very good results in general, it is inconsistent with the proper focus on people's faces and some other objects that you want to be in focus and sharp. It also has some other minor bugs.
I still use it from time to time when take photos of the scenery.
However, as per my above post, my preference is Manual Camera Pro: DSLR Camera HD Professional. It gives me consistently good results. It was recently free in Play Store.

    • Do you have to jailbreak to install those camera apps?

      • No need to do anything. Just install the app from Play Store and it will work just fine.

As I said above, I had found Manual Camera Pro: DSLR Camera HD Professional to be the best. The other apps make good photos in general but struggle a bit with focus.

There is also a work around to install Google Pixel 2 camera. I installed and and tested but the results are still not perfect. Main issue is not perfect focus, which is mainly noticeable when you look at the faces on a big screen.

        • Which version of the gcam port did you use?

          • @Mibo: Arnova8G2

Don't get me wrong. It's still quite good, especially when you use HDR+ and in the evening. But I wish the focus was more consistent.

    • did you even manage to find a good screen protector that went with that case?
      I've tried two….

Ordered from Ali express but after a month wait received wrong size screen protector.
Recently ordered another one from a different seller. Waiting.

  • ZB602KL comes in two variants according to the Asus site, an A and a B model.
The B model has band 28.
It seems that some are selling the A version cheaper and some just use the A model specs in their listing when it could actually be the B model.
It would be good to know an exact model number for the B variant?

    A version
    FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20)
    TDD-LTE (Band 40)
    Supports VoLTE
    WCDMA (Bands 1, 5, 8)
    EDGE/GPRS/GSM (Bands 2, 3, 5, 8)

    B version
    FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 26, 28)
    TDD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41)
    Supports VoLTE, with 2CA
    WCDMA (Bands 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 19)
    EDGE/GPRS/GSM (Bands 2, 3, 5, 8)

    • I thought the B model was the only model that came in 6gb

  • why Asus or many other create different version of same phone? i can see one of reason why they not up there
