I do pretty niche stuff so I dont rake it in like the others on there. Happier to do my own thing. Just doing it to pay the bills, not live a life of luxury.

The poor girl can't even afford a full set of clothes!

Interesting the kind of responses I'm getting here. Lots of assumptions made.

Would be a waste of time trying defend myself to halfwit jealousy-based jokes but FYI, what I do on there doesn't involve nudity on my part. I am actually fully dressed and my money comes from talking.

If anyone here makes that kind of cash from talking on a webcam from home… let me know lol.

@[Deactivated]: Sadly, people who may be nice IRL can sometimes behave like complete idiots on-line. Would be awesome if you did an AMA, because what you do sure is interesting. But with all the idiots, maybe not possible on these forums.

            • +1

@Moose-au: The thought of an AMA crossed my mind too :) but I agree with your concerns and concluded that it wouldn't be worthwhile..

Happy to answer some questions here if people had serious ones.

            • @Moose-au: Like OP, I thought you were joking but now that it seems not, genuinely interested to hear from your perspective.

@Zachary: Nah, it doesn't work that way. Cam girls don't rely on a huge audience, sponsorship, subscriptions, etc like youtubers. They generally stream to a small audience of lonely wealthy men with credit cards linked up.

              • +2

@idonotknowwhy: Digital prostitution.. An age old profession for the modern times.

"Influencers", Camgirls, Tinder and social media platforms.. Pretty obvious society is rapidly turning to crap.

                • -2

@Aneurism: exactly right. certain activist groups claim that women need to be better represented in the mainstream world whereas there are plenty that are turning to tricks (digital or not) to make a living (sometimes extraordinary amounts).

there's those that claim they should be workplace safety laws etc. even though their workplace is not legitimate (under reporting for tax purposes as well).

the selling of ones time and sexual enabling (even if not physical) is pretty low (and for the record i have no respect for many psychologists, life coaches etc. either).

i think it fuels the increase in rape and sexual violence because women monetise human emotion and interaction. men fare better psychologically if they're getting some at home but as soon as women use it to get 'their way' men become frustrated and lash out and sometimes resort to forcing themselves onto women.

my advice? stay the hell away from these kinds of women. they will just cost you financially and mentally.

              • @idonotknowwhy: …how would you know…? Are you one of those lonely wealthy men with credit cards lined up? Or maybe a girl doing the same job…?

                • @Zachary:

Are you one of those lonely wealthy men with credit cards lined up? Or maybe a girl doing the same job…?

                  Both

            • @Zachary:

who makes $100 an hr working from home?!

She makes way more than this: (maybe NSFW) https://www.patreon.com/belledelphine

She's got 1,519 patreons, and they're not in the $1 tier. For just $1,000 per month, you become one of her best friends and you can skype for 1 hour per month lol.

              • @idonotknowwhy: That's probably some random in UK you picked up, this person is supposedly in Sydney(unless that's faked to hide her true location(Or conform with other AUS users even though it's not compulsory to set a location in your profile)…)….think you got the wrong person…..

…Don't even make $500 a month, let along have $1000 to spend on her for a month….gg

                • @Zachary:

think you got the wrong person…

I'm not saying this is the ozbargain user, I was just showing you an example of someone "working from home" and making > $100 per hour because you said:

who makes $100 an hr working from home?!

13 people neg'd you and nobody gave you any examples so I figured I'd try.

                  • @idonotknowwhy: Hahaha, I like how she has tier levels that I didn't notice or read through, especially the god one:

                    GOD
                    $2,500 or more per month

I'm not sure what reward I could give you, but we'll talk about it. I love you.

This tier gives you access to absolutely everything else written below and more.

I look forward to talking to you,

If you have seen Daddy's Home 2 I think it was, or maybe it was in one, the the real dad and the step dad have a fight during story telling time and they try to trump each other's moves and one of them was "GOD" that the step dad said and how he said it was funny…. Here we go, found the clip someone did…heh

EDIT: Woops completely went passed your comment…. Ok….so I guess you can make more than $100/hr provided you get enough people to sign up for you……and if I did my maths right that's $0.5326388888888889 an hr assuming she's on 24/7 non-stop and assuming all patreons are on minimum $1 a month…and the patreons just went up 1,534 last you post…

      • +3

Let me offer a serious answer to your joke question :P

I get paid, in hand, 5 US cents per dollar tipped to me, and still end up with on average $100 AUD per hour.

I am by no means the biggest earner nor the hottest (hahah). What I do is unique and diverts from the stereotypical porn kind of broadcasts. What I lack in viewer numbers, I make up for in loyal regulars.

It's not a perfect job nor is it easy money. It has its perks but like anything, it has plenty of shitty things about it. Nothing comes for free.. and you do have to deal with delusional viewers thinking they are legit buying your love and potential for a real relationship with their money.

So.. its a transaction. They give me money. I give them time and attention and stimulating conversation. Pretty sad that in this day and age, people need to pay for those basic human needs.. but ya know, that's sadly the way it is. I offer sincerity which I guess is rare on those sites.

        • +1

and you do have to deal with delusional viewers thinking they are legit buying your love and potential for a real relationship with their money.

And do you remind them of the transactional nature of the arrangement? Or do you lead them on / take advantage of them for the 5% of the money they're spending?

          • +2

@idonotknowwhy: I remind them and make sure clear boundaries are known.

        • -1

You ever think about accepting crypto payments so that your cut is bigger?

        • So you're only taking a 5% cut even though YOU are the product? I hate to break it to you, but you're getting screwed (pun unintended).

        • +4

Chaturbate pays 5 cents per token, not per dollar. The tokens themselves cost up to $10.99 for packs of one hundred, or roughly ten cents per token. Meaning that they are taking about a fifty-percent rake, not a 95% one.

          • @cannedhams: Im not on that site but you're right re: my error. I've never purchased tokens so wasn't sure how much people bought them for. Thanks - I stand corrected.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: No problems. Myfreecams actually take much less of a rake than most, about 80% of their revenue goes to the models, so they are definitely the best from that point of view. The actual site is probably not so good though.

              • @cannedhams: she's probably on younow. breeding ground for pedo's though. but lots of random talkers that get plenty of tips for just …talking.

and popping balloons for those with that fetish.

        • Happy to answer some questions here if people had serious ones.

          Not as such
How close the experience for punters? :)
          A rhetorical question.

Maybe a Camgirl Concierge, Craft Beer Consultant? Would be innovative.

Whatever it is you're exactly up to, don't let it do your head in. Or other health if imperilled and I'm hoping not.

          Bonus bird, with certainly
          a pertinent question.

Funny how women's rights activists don't push for gender (pay and representation) equality in highly lucrative areas dominated by women. Several female peers of mine lived a very comfortable living working 15-20 hours a week in university (while their male counterparts earnt a fifth of their pay).

      • +3

I agree dude. I'm far from being even remotely what you'd call a feminist.. I am for equality not pseudo-equality where women just want to trump men.. and yeah you raise a point that I reflected on myself. Women make a craptonne more than men on these sites (and porn generally), which goes to show that men don't always have the advantage.

I genuinely feel bad for guys who work just as hard but earn so much less doing this kind of work. I have male friends who know what I do, and have tried camming out of curiosity, and made nothing. Sucks.

        • +1

Is there an actual discrepancy in pay though or just demand?

          • +1

@mezje: Pay is the same. Demand is different, therefore guys tend to lower their rates and prices compared to women.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, that is what I thought, no need to really feel bad! I always thought about it but never ended up going through it. I wonder what is larger for males, gay men or woman…

        • -1

Just because the gender pay gap doesn't necessarily apply to porn actors and actresses doesn't mean it's not a real thing.

          • -1

@saltysalt: No, it's not real thing because it doesn't exist.

OK, that's technically a lie since it does exist, but the reason for it is because men are better at chasing money and power while women tend to settle for jobs that are challenging but not their full potential as they'd rather do something they love instead of something that pays well.

This has already studied and disproven countless times by left leaning sources themselves. Women work less average hours than men in almost every Western country in the world.

            • @SlavOz: Aussie women earn on average $241 per week less than men.

The gender pay gap is influenced by a number of factors, here are some examples to think about.

              • discrimination and bias in hiring and pay decisions
              • women and men working in different industries and different jobs, with female-dominated industries and jobs attracting lower wages
              • women’s disproportionate share of unpaid caring and domestic work
              • lack of workplace flexibility to accommodate caring and other responsibilities, especially in senior roles
              • women’s greater time out of the workforce impacting career progression and opportunities.

Go and have a conversation with your female colleagues at work and tell them how much you're getting paid if you need more proof. I've seen it with my own eyes in the exact same role.

It was only in the 70's that women in the public service in Australia were allowed to remain employed after getting married. Women were required to leave their jobs once they got married. Since then the laws have changed but the pay gap has been fairly steady.

Here is some actual evidence for you. Not sure what study you mention but it's worth looking at the numbers again:

              https://www.wgea.gov.au/data/fact-sheets/australias-gender-p…

              • @saltysalt: Exactly - you've only proven what I said. 4 out of 5 cited reasons for the gender pay gap have to do with the choices of women. It's a choice to work in lower paid industries. It's a choice to take on more domestic work. It's a choice to focus on caring for children. It's a choice to take time out of the workforce. The women who make these choices earn less. The one's who don't earn more.

The WGEA you cited admitted themselves that their calculations of the gender pay gap are garbage (my words, not theirs):
                https://www.news.com.au/finance/work/at-work/how-would-you-c…

They basically ignore the key earning factors when comparing salaries.

Meanwhile, it's been noted that women work on average less hours than men:
                https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-23/census-results-austra…

Would it not be fair to assume that the gender that works more gets paid more?

Yes, there were historical laws which hindered women's careers. Those laws have since been abolished and the women who were effected by them would are no longer in the workforce.

A woman in her working years today has the same earning potential as a man. Given that we live in a society where salaries differ based on thousands of possible factors, it is beyond nonsensical to put differences down to discrimination. I share a job title with 10 different coworkers at my company and all of us are on different salaries - mostly to do with seniority, negotiation skills, success in the last financial year, and so on. All this and more has already been debunked by Harvard in an industry study to explain the gender pay gap:
                https://fee.org/articles/harvard-study-gender-pay-gap-explai…

Anyone who still swallows the quackery of the gender pay gap is just embarrassing themselves at this point.

                • @SlavOz: That first opinion piece you linked is hot pile of garbage. Try reading this:

                  https://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/07/upshot/a-child-helps-your…

                  • @saltysalt: Hot pile of garbage facts? Sorry mate.

NY times is as biased as news sources come, and the article you linked offers no practical explanation of factors which have already been studied and proven, or even how to fix their alleged problem of the "motherhood penalty". Basically its an article that suggests we should make it a thought crime to think women would be less productive after giving birth. Sorry, but that's not something you or any State gets to mandate onto business owners or managers. Thoughts are not yours to control.

And LOL at the idea of using the taxpayers money to give women more paid time off work. How about…no. So let's take more money away from all the working women out there and give it to the women who want to work less. Naaaa.

Wondering why questions like these are posted on Ozbargain.

    • +12

Been curious on how people find time to post/view Ozbargain during work hours.

Most people I know who use Ozbargain are generally are from white collar jobs, my tradie mates never heard of 'Ozbargain' lol.

            @Jugganautx: it's very good.

            Where do i sign up?

          • @Jugganautx: Is it a hazardous job? Do you think the pay is decent taking into account the risks of the job?

            • @ihbh: No its not that dangerous due to risk assessment and hazard control but construction is still the most hazardous job due to the nature of it. This means one crew may only have one incident in their existence but every jobs has 20+ crews and every job has at least something go wrong, normally small due to control measures but still.
