A Friend Wants a Laptop for under $600

Do you know of a decent, budget laptop?

They will be using it a lot for typing typical office and e-mail type things, using at home and at the local library:

So what I think would be essential are:
- A comfortable built in keyboard.
- A 14 to 15" IPS screen, with a resolution of at least 1080p.
- An okay forward facing camera for long distance meetings.
- At least one USB 3 port for fast transfers.
- 4+ hour battery life for travel and if library power point isn't available that day.

What isn't needed:
- SSD
- Dedicated GPU
- An optical drive

A good idea, but they don't know what RAM is, so they'd need to do a lot of research. Or I could just say 'Get that one'.

Take a look at the Dell Outlet plenty of laptops under $600.
Also I think your friend should consider an SSD. Nobody should have a HDD as their primary drive in 2018.

      SSD is essential.

    • I'm glad to see SSD comes in around that point, thought I'd cost more.

Just do the rounds of JBHiFi, Good Guys etc and see what's out there. Coming on here and asking for recommendations on something with such s broad scope is pointless.

    • You say its pointless but someone already gave a great option below.

I know a guy. Nigerian Royalty. He's got a ton of cash to giveaway. I think he'll be able to help your friend out.

    • 1 million in what? Dollars, Naira or Schmeckles?

Kogan is doing some Black Friday specials at the moment. They have their own Kogan line

    • Thanks, they look too budget for me, but it might suit them.

Lenovo E570. It's a typical business laptop, one of the most popular models on Ozbargain last year. Should tick all the boxes.

Most expensive Dell Outlet laptop for under $600. There's another Inspiron 15 laptop that swaps in an Intel CPU and a 1TB Harddrive but loses the AMD CPU (and integrated AMD graphics which are much better) and also loses the 256GB SSD.

Personally I'd go the 256GB SSD > 1TB Harddrive, and the AMD Vega 10 graphics definitely > Intel HD graphics.

    • Excellent, thanks for that.
