Super cheap price for both gimbals, even though the Osmo Mobile is first gen, still worth it. Both Osmo Mobile gimbal and base must be purchased in the same transaction for the base to be free.

The Osmo Mobile is selling fast based on the stock meter.

Osmo Mobile is out of stock, only left the Osmo 4K

I've heard that the built-in stabilisation on iPhones (the plus models at least?) meshes horribly with the DJI Osmo Mobile, resulting in really stuttery video - anyone have any experience?
Thinking about getting one for my 7+.

Yes It is true, as I have this gimbal. In fact it is pretty much the same for most current handphones with built-in OIS with various gimbals, including the DJI Osmo Mobile 2. There are various work arounds that you can try by searching Youtube videos with many tutorials on how to best use your choice of gimbals and mobiles.

Thanks for that mate! Sounds like I'll give it a miss in terms of getting a gimbal for my phone then. The more expensive Osmo with the built in camera seems like a possible option - though the sample footage didn't look great on the store page.

      • Strange, it's never been a problem for my old LG V20. I've just left it on as I still use it a lot without the gimbal.

I can second this as well - I have an osmo mobile and my iPhone 7, 8 and XR all fight with the osmo to stablise.

I use a gopro karma grip with a gopro as my main stablised action cam. If I was getting one now I would just get the latest hero and skip the gimbal.

The osmo mobile is still great for motionlapse photography - for $99 it is worth getting it for that.

IBS and gimbal have love and hate relationship, and there is no love.

Thanks for mentioning this as I was about to get one and had no idea about the conflicts. Would have been a disaster!

  • don't forget the free osmo base…

  • According to some post, DJI has fixed the issue with the app. Any comments?

  • ANNNND there goes my money lol I was waiting for the 4K to drop and boom there it is!

  • Was looking for a gimbal because I'll be doing a family road trip in NZ soon. Thanks OP.

But because it was low stock, I just bought straight away without looking at reviews (which I always do with any new purchase). How is this with the pixel 2XL?

Is it also possible to mount the base on a car dashboard to record my scenic drive?

  • Thank for posting OP you legend. Got the Osmo mobile + base

  • No longer available - Sold out

The 4K built in is still OK - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/camera-accessories/dji/dji…

  • Dammit i spent 3-4 times this about 1.5 years ago. Makes me sad

Slightly off topic but which would be the better option considering I have an iPhone X? The Osmo Mobile/Osmo Mobile 2 or getting a dedicated camera such as the Osmo 4K.

I've had the mobile (used with s7 plus) and used it for traveling. I found it a pain to switch between using my phone normally (maps, regular photos) and using the gimbal. It takes time to secure the phone (so you can't take a stabilised video in a rush) and it can be quite fiddly if you have a large phone to get it balanced (otherwise the motor seems to be spending more battery keeping it level, than if you had your phone centred).

Not to mention I had use a portable battery to keep my phone constantly charged. Whilst it's good to use for photos as well, I found it easier to just take regular photos without the gimbal.

Looks like though, with the 4k, you can film without a phone (I.e. no monitor) and you don't have to worry so much about balance if you want to mount your phone.

Mind you, the videos I did manage to take on my mobile were very good. Just a hassle.

i have one too and find it the same.. those few seconds and the shot it gone. i use it with a gopro and adapter.. seemed like a good idea at the time but not that practical unless you are videoing the whole day

also with improving stabiliastion.. the concept of a gimbal should have came out this price then iphone 6 were around etc.. new google/x's have pretty good stabilastion on them now anyways.. not as good as the gimbal but much better than the shaky shaky stuff a few years ago… even the new gopro i heard is pretty good without a gimbal

        • So you use the mobile gimbal with an adapter to mount a GoPro?

          • +1

@stickymoo: Yep you can be an adapter that has the weight thing on it so it can go kn the gimbal. A little toublesome to change batteries or sd card with the screws and stuff

            • @richmond12: Handy, I’ll get the adapter so I can use it with my hero 5 black.

      • I'm currently in a sticky situation to either fork out $150 on a gimbal for my phone (capable up to 4K/60fps) or purchase a GoPro Hero 5 (as it has a screen for convenience and up to 4K/30fps) for roughly $350. I do have all the GoPro accessories and sticks as I have previously owned a Hero 5 (which I dropped from a cruise ship earlier this year). However I am a bit concerned when you mentioned that it was easier to just take photos without the gimbal which does somewhat contradicts its purpose but it is cheaper given that these devices will be used 4-5 times a year. What do you think is the better option?

        • +1

Get a gimbal. If you are only using it 4-5 times a year. You are preparing to use it. The time it takes to snap your phone into a gimbal is the same time it would take to turn on a GoPro & get it ready. Not to mentions the GoPro 5 benifits greatly from a gimbal too. So it’s just another item to carry accessories, sd cards, batteries. Plus charge & maintain.

You’re going to have your mobile on you anyway

        • Depends on how important stabilised video is to you. The stabilisation is really good - I was able to walk up stairs in a selfie video mode, and the video was smooth without bumps.

You can still take photos and in fact using the DJI app you can use the controls as a trigger to take a photo. It's easier to take photos without it mainly because it's more natural and you can access the your other camera app features more easily. Also, if you quickly pan to take a quick photo, the gimbal has to catch up since it's trying to smooth out your hand movement. Changing from landscape to portrait is also awkward since at first it will try to stabilise back to horizontal but it does (from memory) realise you are trying to take a vertical photo/video and then works to stabilise for vertical use. I often just turned the gimbal off to take a photo. Again, it's not natural but it's workable.

I have a GoPro myself (I think it's a 5) and never thought the quality was top end. Your iPhone X should be easily better except for wide angle (though I personally have not technically compared the two).

        • Just pick something you think you will use. Then think about price after that. No point buying anything you will never use

  • Thanks for this post
    Bought the 4k

  • Grabbed the 4K, got the base for free and Express Delivery was $8.99 - not too shabby!

    • The base comes with the 4K too. I wonder if they added that since last night. I don’t remember seeing it. Great price!

I grabbed the mobile gimbal. It’s hard not to jump on this too.

  • I get this error I think it's out of stock "One or more items in your cart is not available for delivery to your selected address. Please remove the items, or enter a different address and try again." Anyone else getting this?

    • I just checked & it seems to still be in stock. 4K & base. Both went through to payment.

      • not working for me I've tried multiple addresses, must be an issue with my account, I'll contact JB about it.

        • I had same issue in Chrome.
I switched to Firefox and it worked.

  • What a joke can’t evan pay

    • Been trying since 2pm…

  • Bought gimbal 4K and today returned, was given refund. For reason battery after getting charged, was coming 0% on the display.

Spoke to job hi fi, they said don’t have replacement so can offer refund.
