    • FYI it's $298 on jb's website now

  • Is the galaxy watch 46mm far superior?
Seen it as low as 440 lately but if the difference isn't that much, might consider this

    • +2

Not worth the upgrade so I doubt it.

      • I'll be going from no watch to a smartwatch

        • +1

Same here even though I've been eyeing on the samsung ones lately. I think I might just get this one $140 difference is a lot.

          • @westzod: spoke to a colleague who has the frontier
gets 2-3 days out of it
might have to wait for a 46mm watch deal

            • @shole: Yeah.. i mean i survived without a watch for a year now but 140 difference is really good.

        • You’re better off getting a good quality quartz or automatic watch which will last for decades. This smartwatch gadget will be obsolete in a few years and junk when the battery no longer holds charge.

    • +6

Most reviews say ~double battery life out of galaxy watch 46. Depends on how much charging bothers you. I like look of s3 better, but coming from a pebble, I would prefer longer battery life.

      • +3

I migrated from a series of Pebbles to this. I turn mine off at night, and can get four days out of it. I don't need to, so I typically throw it on the charger every second of third night.

        • +1

Have had mine for a year, found that turning off Bluetooth and wifi definitely gets me 3-4 days without a charge plus if you will be without access to a charger (out camping or something), turn on battery saving at around 40-50% remaining and you'll get another day or so as well. I love mine, just can't get over using Bluetooth headset to play spotify whilst jogging without carrying my mobile, I solely purchased the S3 for this and no regrets since.

          • @Mikay89: Same, the Spotify feature on runs is the only reason why I chose this over a Garmin or dedicated fitness tracker. The smart watch features are okay, but personally, I don't use it for that as I find it redundant as my mobile is always with me.

    • I have the galaxy, apart from the better battery, it’s just like the S3. For me the battery was the deal breaker, I just preferred to have the newest watch. Otherwise, was really close to getting the S3 as it looks way better imo.

      • Galaxy Watch is rated at 50m waterproof (but loses MST Samsung pay) - S3 has only IP68 (1.5m for 30 min, so not covered under warranty for water damage).

I'd happily trade MST for 50m since NFC is pretty wide spread in Australia.

Worth an upgrade? only if you plan swimming with it.

    • +1

I was looking forward to upgrading but was left disappointed with the minor upgrades. This Gear S3 has been so solid since day one

      • +1

Same - I wanted the 50m water rating, but that alone wasnt worth an upgrade.

    • Its not leaps and bounds better than the S3, but is a modest upgrade. I've had the S3 for a while now, and can confidently say that I see no need to upgrade to the galaxy watch.

  • 299 at Officeworks also

    • +4

Officeworks price match -5% on that 298 from jbhifi?

      • +1

        waiting for this to happen…
$283 very tempting to bite the bullet

        • How r u getting to that amount?
Isnt 5% made from difference of price and not the full price?

          • @EnALup: https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-beat-guarantee?cm_sp=Homepage--Header_ESpot_V2--price-beat-guarantee

Our Price Beat Guarantee (PBG) means that if you find a lower priced
identical stocked item that's in stock with a competitor (even if it's on sale),
we will not only match it, we'll beat it by 5%.

deals off though - OW already updated price to $299 - will see if they match JB come fri

Very tempted to get one! Should wait and get galaxy watch or go for it?
Maybe some more deal for galaxy watch like 40% off last time?

    • +1

yeah, I want to know this as well. Haven't seen any upcoming specials for the Galaxy Watch.

    • +1

Isn't the S4 coming out soon?

      • 2020?

        • lol is it? thought it was early next year. nevermind then haha.

      • +2

There is no s4? The Galaxy Watch replaced the S series I thoight

  • +1

I got this for my watch on day one and never looked back.

    • +1

Looks good. Might be helpful to know the name of that watch face?

      • Golden Agent 2.1 :)

    • Is it 3rd party face. Looks nice.

  • when you get the metal band, make sure you get the one with the curved ends. otherwise there'll be holes at the top and bottom and you'll see your skin. not a good look.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/22mm-Stainless-Steel-Watchba…

    • What's the quality like on these?

  • I got a galaxy watch 46mm from the crazy popular presale deal and for what it's worth I don't see the $300+ value in it. After going from a pebble steel -> pebble time -> galaxy watch, I feel like realistically it still does pretty much the same thing, just slightly worse. I have 0 interest in any of the fitness features and unless I'm just not looking in the right places no real apps that are worth installing past the default stuff.

    • +3

      Why did you buy then?
Fitness features are gr8 and one of reasons to buy.

  • make sure you buy the metal band with the curved ends

make sure you download the Facer app as well for awesome watch faces

  • Can anybody comment on how durable these are against scratches and minor bumps? I think they look great but I always get the impression that they would scratch and look awful after some time or just stop working after a minor bump.

    • i have knocked mine on so many things, still no scratches on the screen or the watch its self, had mine about a year

    • I bought a screen protector from day 1, I recommend the same.

  • +1

Can anyone comment on how well this works with iPhone? Are there any limitations when it's coupled with iOS instead of android?

    • I'd like to know too

  • +1

    I love my S3
It tracks my sleeping pattern and gives me updates
It tells me to get moving when I sit still for too long
It allows me to read messages, WhatsApp and messenger and email

It's great when your "near" your phone but busy doing other things like cooking or gardening yet you can still receive a call or text message with out needing to have the phone on you

It is not meant to be the main go to device for your needs but for what it can do it definitely has delivered

Yes I charge it every 2 days but it's like a phone you have to charge it anyway.
If you're just using it for a watch then your not really needing a smartwatch.

guys im reading all these posts and would like to know two things

    1. what is the BEST top model watch that will allow me to listen to spotify at the gym without carrying my phone?

    2. are these samsung/android watches shitty looking compared to the nice apple watch my boss wears?

    thank you

    • -1

      Downvoted for asking questions. Ouch.

    • No. 2 - the Frontier (this one) looks a lot more like a nice traditional watch than the Apple watch.

      • Thank you

  • Does anyone know if Wear OS can be installed? I've got a Pixel 2, does it fully function with Tizen OS?

    • +1

      yes
go on the playstore and install samsung wear.

  • Also does it support google pay? Or pixel 2xl supports samsung pay?

    • Supports Samsung pay.

  • +2

I notice there are people emphasising the sleep logging, but if you have to charge it every 2 days presumably at night, doesn't that mean it's pretty useless as a sleep logger. You only log 50% of your sleeping nights

    • Completely agree! Hence why I use HUAWEI Honor A1 Fitness Band myself, bought from Catch for $16 (sold out now) and recommend anything similar like this. I wanted primarily steps count and sleep monitoring, this has both. Accurate & reliable. Battery lasts like 3 weeks easy. Many similar available from eBay.

    • It charges pretty quickly. You could easily charge it on your desk while working.

Having said that, I switch to an Pebble at night for sleep tracking. I could also use the Mi 3 band that's sitting in my drawer.

    • yup - one of the main reasons I am still sticking to Garmin Fenix 3. Bought the samsung gear sports earlier (similar feature set) which is fantastic at what it does but the additional battery life def has its advantages

  • Think this will go cheaper?

  • Thanks OP.

  • Anyone considering buying Samsung Galaxy Watch should first learn about its major bugs! I've owned Galaxy Watch 4G 46mm since they one and can confirm the bugs.

  • JB Hifi online has updated pricing to $298 so before actually catalogue pricing, so can click n collect tonight instead of Friday.

  • +1

Price Beat Officeworks @ $283.10 and collected.

    • How do you find it? Do you like it?

      • it's nice, never had a smart watch before - band is plastic and soft, but i'm use to metal band or leather but it's ok. i like collecting timepiece - it's not grown on me yet with this smart watch thing. maybe give a few months. I'd say first thing noticed, was that it doesn't show anything sometimes, unless you do turn your whole wrist a certain way towards your view. now that's not normally what I'd do with a typical watch as you can still see time when at angle or you hand rested. This thing you have to put it in front of you before it wakes, but guess it's gotta save power, so time will tell (no pun intended), if it's any good. For the price (under $300) with the extras things not on traditional watch (ie notifications / weather / calls / heart beat) - I'm quite happy with purchase.

        • Does this not have always On display? I turned it on for my galaxy watch and it always shows the time now.

  • Does anyone have opinions on Tizen vs Wear OS?

  • Cheaper at Bing lee as part of black friday deal @ $239.20 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Samsung-SM-R760NDAAXSA-Gear-…?
