    Multi level marketing, aka a pyramid scheme. You sign people up under you (like a refer all code), and then they sell the same product as you but you get a cut of their profits. The victims then have to spam their friends /family to sign up or buy their crap.

    They sell things like makeup (This, Mary Kay), Tupperware, books etc.

  MLMs are predatory and should be avoided at all costs. Their is a reason why certain products are sold using this model: it is because they are vastly inferior and would not make it in a normal retail setting. Be careful ordering their is no doubt a trick involved.
