Please help me choose my next phone.

Hi all,

I have an LG V20 and I'm unhappy with its update support, as I have yet to receive Oreo and without any security updates for 9+ months.

I don't mind the brand, but my budget is around $500, but I don't mind going over this.

I don't mind if it doesn't have a headphone jack as I know a lot of phones are not including it anymore.

I've looked at:

-Essential Phone

-Xiaomi Pocophone (no band 28, but I'm on Optus. Is this an issue?)

What are my options?

I'll be using it for listening to music, social media apps and the occasional game here and there.

Thanks!

  • New pixel 3 is meant to be having a cheaper version with a headphone jack

    • Still sucks compared to the other similar price-ranged phones. Headphone jack is nice and all but it feels like they stripped out most of the features of the Pixel 3 and put it into Pixel 3 Lite.

      • Camera is still the same though (apparently) which is a highlight.

  • personaly, i guess what you demand maybe the brands that can provide the face to face offline support to you, if there is right,
    then,

try iphone, the best support from their offline store, and many youtube free-content support and sharing too.
else of iphone, the next would be huawei, and xiaomi, exist also the offline support too from their offline store.

    • What I mean by "update support" is basically getting new updates from Android 7 to 8. Hope that clears up the confusion.

      • i see, then, i would keep of suggetsing xiaomi, they really update the support fast & frequently. as i know frrom china, they update almost weekely whenever from their smartphone or their internet of things!

  • Is the only issue with the v20 the software? If so, root the phone and run Lineage

It's not the only issue. I am not experienced enough in Android to root a phone :(

When I bought the V20 people were saying that its size is something to get used to. Are there any other mid-range phones better OR on the same level as the V20 that have a slightly smaller screen?

    Nokia 7 plus

  • One Plus6T is the cheapest SD845 phone

  • You could grab the Pocophone F1 since it's probably the most popular phone right now. OnePlus 6T is still pretty pricey but OnePlus 6 or even 5T is good enough too.

    • 6T is pricey and the in-screen fingerprint scanner doesn't interest me that much.

I'll hold off until Black Friday to see if there are any good price reductions.

  • Nokia 6.1 or 7 Plus with Android One support your update concerns should be allayed.

    • Thanks for the recommendation. Both phones look promising.
