Internet Recommendations for Short Term Stay?

Hi There,

An opportunity has presented itself where I can stay at this place for 6 months.

Re: internet, I can't sign up to one of these 24month contracts that Optus and the other big Telcos love to dish out.

So, I'm wondering, am I better off upgrading my phone plan and hot spotting for 6 months? Or, are there month to month contracts I don't know about?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

-Ned

    vivid wireless

    • The trouble with Vivid Wireless is that you have to buy their modem. I think it's dropped from $300 down to $200 now, though.

Also, you only get 12Mbs maximum, and often 5-6Mbs.

Better, in my opinion, to either use an existing phone to as a hotspot/tether or get the next 4G battery powered modem that goes on sale.

  • check usage

  • Kogan, Catch sim card starter and plug them into a pocket wifi.

  • Kogan + Old phone as hotspot modem/router + xiaomi USB repeater.
    Kogan sim = Variable cost, $1 - $5 for $32GB for 30 days
    Old phone = Potentially free
Xiaomi USB repeater = $8 if 4 week shipping, $13 for melb stock (shopro)

Optus also does data sim without contract

    • And their 4g modem costs about $40, so cheaper than installation fees with anyone. I think this is a great option if not needing very large amounts of data

  • Chances are they will go into voluntary administration…

Aussie broadband month to month plan

  • Try Launtel, if you are after NBN fibre and in one of their catchment areas, you can pay per day.

  • Firstly
What kind of data allowance/speed do you require as this will determine the best option.

Is the location you are moving to NBN ready? FTTH? FTTN?
