If you have an Android phone and Windows PC, this. If you mainly have Apple devices, go for the Apple TV.
Also do I need this if I have a Sony TV with Android?
Not as much, you still might be able to benefit from the game streaming on it. It's harder sell if you've already got an android TV though.
That depends. Shield TV is so much faster than Sony Android TV because it has better hardware, no bloatware,faster OS updates, more storage for apps.
I have both. The Shield is way more powerful, no lagging and a lot less clunkier generally.
Do the abc iview etc apps show up on this devices compatible list? I've read that compatibility can require some side loading etc
