The sales on both Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones and iPads (less surprising), which were my two Black Friday items to purchase, have been pretty pathetic, and having not followed Black Friday before i'm not sure whether that's it done and dusted or whether it gets better.
Should I hold out for longer or just buy these items for basically the same discount we would see now and then year round?
I'd do it for that price - just haven't seen it (for black ones, anyway).

Which iPad model? There will be no chance for the Pros 2018 to be discounted or even the Pros 2017 model. the iPad (2018) 128GB are currently on sale for $500 for 599 which is a great price and I can't see it go lower.
Sony XM3 sales price will hover around $350-$400 for the considerable future. Even the XM2 sales price is still 299 just now

I'm just looking at the regular 2018 iPad - no pro.
$500 is a great price for the 2018 iPad. It uses A10 chips (iPad Pro 2017 is on A10X and iPad Pro 2018 is on A12X). It is very fast and you can use the Apple Pencil also so it is perfect for school.
I can't actually find one at that price. But yeah - it sounds like a great price.
Ah sorry - yep I see the 32GB one for cheapish. The 128GB not so cheap (obviously).

on average prices will not be like this until boxing day says.
I think if you can get them for around $300 you'll be happy
