Easynews Usenet Plan - $4.00 Per Month USD - Unlimited Web Gigs with 3,338 Days Web Retention - Annual Plan

340

Hey guys,
CyberWeek deal from US Newsgroup provider Easynews. Been going for a few days already so no idea on expiry, get in fast.

Best deal I have ever seen with Easynews.
-Unlimited Web Gigs
-Unlimited NNTP access
-3,338 days web retention
-Free zero-log VPN
-No newsreader required.

Google what Usenet is and you will discover a world of joy if you weren't already aware.
Plus Easynews makes Usenet much simpler via the use of their GlobalSearch function which allows you to use keywords to search for the downloadable content and download via the browser. As well as this, you get access to around 9.5 years of content, all for about $6 AUD per month - purchased as a 12 month block.

And yes… I know I broke the 'First Rule of Usenet' by actually mentioning it. :)

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2018

  • Do you know which countries are available with the VPN service?

    • Their client only lists about 18 countires, but their are more countries supported which are excluded from the client for some reason and need to be manually entered (generally 3rd world or cheap countries which might be useful for picking up bargains).

  • How does one use Usenet? Is there a dummy's guide?

NNTP is somewhat confusing at first, but Easynews is the only provider I know of with a web interface as well. It's just like using a specialized search engine for files. You can download single files, or combined multiple files into a zip for easy download.

$4 a month with everything included is a steal for Easynews; normally the full package (Web + NNTP + Unlimited + VPN) would set you back at least $30 USD a month.

True. The web interface is a game changer. If you spell correctly and know the format of the file name, you will pretty much find what you are after.
Plus 9 years of retention means it is very likely you will find that obscure documentary that is not available with most other sources.

I posted information about this on the Reddit thread but forgot to post it here (feeling fatigued). Easynews is normally a Premium provider but these prices are really competitive since you get standard Highwinds NNTP, web based Usenet stored on different services with decoded files and ability to find and download specific files from an archive (such as a music track). Their VPN seems to be just average, a modest number of exit locations in their client, but note that more are available if you manually type then in from this page (eg India, Estonia, Mexico, Malaysia): https://account.easynews.com/vpnservers.php

If you are new to internet, pick this up. Perhaps an indexer as well. NZBGeek for obfuscated posts (currently $20USd for lifetime access), or NzbSU (more expensive, has more entries for niche material like Ebooks and music, about $15 USD per year).

Also note, although the deal is $4 per month, you will be charged for 12 months in advanced.

    • But I think easynews reduces the need for a niche indexer since you can just search for that stuff in its Web interface.

(I really wanted to Rick Roll, but decided not to).

  • After the first year will it go back to $30/month?
Trying to decide if I need this on top of a private tracker I'm already paying for but I've always been curious about newsgroups and never had the chance. Seems like heaps more content

    • +2

No idea about what happens in 12 months time. Most likely they will have another new Black Friday etc deal.
There is heaps more content with Newsgroups compared to trackers etc.
Plus you will get full internet download speed rather than limited with peer to peer. FYI, I get 100 meg a sec from US.

  • How does this compare to usenet.farm? They have a sale on too at moment. Mine is just about to expire

  • How does this compare to ThunderNews?

  • This will search for files for me?

Ive been using binsearch recently without much luck at times

    I remember agent very well

  • Couldn't find a way to apply as an existing customer but I hit up the help line and they applied the plan instantly. Good upgrade from the plus plan for the year

    • Dammit wish I'd done that. I cancelled and re-applied

    • Thanks. Been a member for about 15 years now (possibly more) and am on the US$9.99 per month Classic plan.

This deal is definitely better for me as I only use it for books nowadays.

  • +2

As an FYI, I clarified a few points with Easynews support and as I had recently just paid up my monthly US$10 fee, I told then to let me stay on the 'Classic' plan until the end of that month and then apply the $48 (for one year) fee ongoing.

I also confirmed with them that once the 12 months were up, the $48 deal will renew.

This deal will only stay alive as long as I do not change my plan.

    Hope this helps.

Also, just realised I have been with them continuously for almost 17 years.

    • 17 years of subscription is certainly an endorsement of some kind!

  • I’m not going to lie. This is awesome!!!!
