Photobook Australia - Beware of Their Lack of Combined Shipping!

I noticed what seemed to be a decent deal though one of the rewards sites last week for cheap photobooks with Photobook Australia. The deal was a 11 x 8 inch layflat hardcover photobook for $20 (apparently 60% off). Bought 3 thinking they'd make nice Christmas presents for the grandaparents.

So I spent some time creating the albums, only to find that there was no way to purchase all 3 photobooks on the same order - meaning that shipping of $9.95 was going to be required on for each. So I email support, and they tell me of a way to duplicate the album to end up with 3 photobooks on the same order. Now when I try that, I'm quoted shipping of $27.95.

I assume this issue would come up regardless of how many individual items you purchased (combined shipping doesnt seem to be a thing), so just beware.

  • Yea… not all stores have flat delivery fee regardless of how many items you order.

Is that just because you didn't know how?

    • No was given instructions by support, only to find that even when combining it still multiplied the shipping fee.

  • Why would you assume the cost to send three items is the same to send one?

    Weight & volume exist, y'know.

  • So you seriously telling me it costs $30 to send 3 photo books which probably weigh less than a kg? Which also happens to be 3 times the cost to send a single one?

    • The minimum postage cost for a 500g mail article is $8.30 which is about the same for other carriers.

You should print that out and contemplate it for a while.

What is the sound of one hand clapping? What about three hands?

They've probably optimised production for single books, book gets printed, packaged and an address label slapped on it without any human involvement. And going on the 8"x11" size probably in China.

If it cheers you up any maybe the extra cost comes from them having to go and find your books and bundle them into a single package. Y'know, the 'handling' part of 'shipping and handling'.

At 60% off the books were originally $70 ($60+$10) each. You're only paying $30 ($20+$10) each and you still demand a further discount. And now you know why 'free shipping' is a thing. You'd see "Was $70, now only $30!" and you would have been happy.

If the shipping charge offends you then don't buy it. Don't expect us to march off with you on your crusade.
