Fully agreed. Daniel Wellington watches are the epitome of exorbitant pricing. Even their most expensive model lacks sapphire crystal. Much better value for money is very easily achieved. An excellent example is that Cadisen post.

    • +2

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe there's a market out there that'll buy this crap for 100s of dollars when you can get a reputable Citizen/Seiko etc watch with more features and longer warranty with a price tag of <$100.

  • +7

Just so you know, Daniel Wellington watches are very low quality for the price. They marketed very successfully and came to market at the perfect time. Buying a DW is kind of like buying a Supreme t-shirt, it costs a dollar or two to make and they charge astronomical prices for what you get.

    • +5

      Absolutely correct.

    • +4

Pretty much, if they didn't market it on instagram and got hipsters and medium celebs promoting it, they would just be some brand on kmart shelves selling for $10 bucks.

More bargains here on minimalists watches with far superior build quality that you can wear swimming for less than half the price of this junk.

      More good examples.

some people just like daniel wellington.

      This is OzBargain.

    • +3

But this website is about posting bargains, hence why the comments above have been made.

    • +3

Each to their own, but we like to warn people about what they're getting themselves into. For the kind of money you blow on a single DW watch, you can get Two (2) Citizen watches, with Sapphire, Express Shipped, and with Local & International warranty.

the font on eco-drive is out of place and citizen reminds me of grandpa's watches.

        • +3

citizen reminds me of grandpa's watches

          Grandpa's watch, you say?

        • +3

"citizen reminds me of grandpa's watches."

Mine feel like something that will last at least 40-60 years too.

        • +4

Your Grandpa sounds like a top bloke. He obviously knows more about watches & value for money than you.

These warnings are very useful for people like me. I would have easily fallen for the DW hype if not for WatchNerd and PJC explaining everything.

Ended up getting some SKMeis instead.

        • +1

Which Skmei watches do you own?

          • @WatchNerd: I just purchased SKMEI 1457 and SKMEI 1397 as birthday gifts for female relatives. I went with Skmei because I remembered seeing you post deals about them and Megir.

I just had a thought, are all Skmei watches good or was I supposed to look out for specific models?

      • +3

Oops I realised I just confused you with WatchNerd in my previous comments.

I should say that MathNerd, WatchNerd, and PJCs are the champions of preventing Ozbargainers buying crap watches.

    • Some people like boot aerofoils that make a vehicle look like a 1960's slot car, however others are quite entitled to point out they are pointless rust-traps unless you're planning on traveling ~ 300 KPH.

    • +1

If you really like their designs, you can get Skmei equivalents for $10-15

If you want a good quality and stylish 'minimalist' watch, I suggest you look up Mondaine. They are Swiss and have a variety of styles - quartz, auto and various cases. They are one of the few 'minimalist' brands accepted on watch forums. Their design is based on the famous Swiss railway clock design.
