  • wondering when someone would post this one up.

Another one to add to my collection of undrunk beer!

  • Did anyone have any problems redeeming last week ???

A caller on 3aw last week said he took the add in to one of stores and they said they are no longer accepting getwinesdirect vouchers… I didn't catch which store it was though…

    • No problems from my venture to Dans - except they were out of Asahi. Spoke to the staff and was advised that Dan Murphy's are now doing their own promos for these vouchers, and I was offered a $25 slab of Sol, Maxx Blonde or something else (cant remember which). He seemed to think this would be an ongoing thing - obviously they have a less loss margin for Sol and Maxx Blonde than for Asahi/Corona/Peroni etc

Dan's are still advertising that they will beat any advertised price, so from their own marketing they cannot refuse to beat this one (unless the store is more than 10km from the Direct Wines store in Richmond, which is their caveat)

      • haha, lol, I would like to see Dan Murphys offering vouchers for $25 slabs of Maxx Blonde, which they don't even sell since it is Coles homebrand beer.
Now that's how to play your competition!!

        • It wasn't Maxx Blonde that Dan's were offering. It was Platinum Blonde, their home brand Pure Blonde alternative.

        • Apu's right - it was platinum blonde, not Maxx. Didn't interest me as I dont drink either!

        • -4

          as I dont drink either

why were you at Dan's if you don't drink?

  • Not as good as Asahi which sold out quick.

Unfortunately Peroni is brewed in Australia under license these days too.

    • What a shame it is brewed in Australia now.

What beer isn't brewed in Australia??

      • +2

        Imported beer isn't

        • Is Tasmanian beer imported ?

      • What a shame it is brewed in Australia now.

        http://www.beerawards.com/pdfs/AIBA_COR_V2.pdf

Australia makes some of the best beers in the world…

      • Well actually, it depends a lot on where you buy it as well.. Some places still actually import, instead of using the local distributor.

Recent example: Corona's purchased from GWD had completely different labels to those purchased from DM, the lid also didn't have "AUSTRALIA" imprinted on it. Taste was the same though. :P

        • I think you will find that corona is all imported (not sure from where, might not necessarily be mexico) but I believe that the AUSTRALIA you see under the cap actually means "for export to australia"

        • @she_spools_180,

I believe you are correct about the original source of Corona. It certainly wasn't the best example I could've used…

These VIC only deals are killing me - I need some cheap NSW beer please!

BTW - whatever happened to these "beer wars" that everyone was going on about last week? Haven't seen any cheap beer around here….

    • Foster's put their oversized foot down and said that they weren't going to ship any beer to Coles or Woolies if they put the price below cost.

It's amazing the weight that some companies can throw around when they want to.

  • set ups shop in the west pleeze!!!

    noice beer too

    • noice beer too

      Bellissimo…

  • Went and got mine today from South Melbourne, had plenty.

    • Agreed!.sth melbourne is one of the few reputable DM outlets who will to take it to GWD. The rest are just BS playing hide the booze.

  • can you price match this in WA?

    • Simple answer: no, bottle o's that beat prices always state that it needs to be a local competitor, some going as far to state they have to be within 10km's… If you try somewhere and they let you, by all means let us know!

  • is the voucher in Wed and Thursday papers or just Wednesday?

    • Voucher in Wednesday's paper, valid for Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Dan Murphy's Doncaster - what a joke.

Last week no Asahi and this week no Peroni. I'm starting to think that stock is being hidden out the back.

If you don't like selling products under cost, don't bother advertising a price beat guarantee.

Can any Dan's staff comment unofficially and without identifying yourselves as to whether this is going on…

    • Just report this to their MD Martin smith as it was he who went on national tv and said and I quote "no one will beat our price". I'm sure he would be interested to hear about the shifty business of hiding the booze!.

    • I worked at a DM's for 4 years, (up until about a year ago) and nothing like this ever happened while i was there. we would frequently run out of stock if something was very cheap though….

They were quite an honest business, where I worked at least…

      • GWD have only entered the beer arena in last 6 months!.

But as I've said previously (and experienced) there are some stores which DO have stocks
during the days of promo - They have my business.

  • Ballarat , big sign "No stock till Friday" Asked if it was a scam being so convenient that the offer ends on Thursday, and they said they just sold out. Like this all time there now. No offer of anything else instead either :(

  • Dan's have always seemed fairly legit to me. Went in earlier today, they were sold out. The guy was very apologetic (Not that he had to be) abut assured me they were getting 'a shit load' more stock in this afternoon.

Last week they gave a friend of mine a $25 slab of Sapporo because they were out of Asahi.

  • First Choice Chadstone - Called up today and said they had run out of all stock yesterday

  • Dan Murphy's in Brighton claimed they were sold out last night.

I'm not sure, seems extremely unlikely - as if they wouldn't have a whole stack out the back.
Rather disappointing but not a whole lot you can do, short of running into the back to see if they are telling the truth :p

If GWD continues these weekly specials I'm sure the 'no stock' will be a recurring theme :(
Best bet is to get there Wednesday morning, but I have work all day!
