What's 5 amps in watts? Just wondering if it will charge my laptop.

    • yes!

    • +2

      Voltage x Amps = Watts

      • Thanks. It's not powerful enough then. There are so many of these things flying around right now but none do laptop charging.

        • +3

This one seems quite good for the money (comparing to the other similar items that show up as they don't seem to throw out the same wattage).
I want one cause they look cool and are nice and compact but then I thought to myself "but you don't go anywhere".

Pity it doesn't do QC (or some variant). Is that what you need for your laptop? Charge via USB-C?

          • +1

@namgib: QC is on USB-A ports. carleast likely needs USB-PD (which is a USB Type-C charging standard).

            • @HighAndDry: Thanks, just looked up PD, I guess QC (or whatever variant my wifes phone uses) is close at about 20volts and about 3amps.
Funnily enough the standard doesn't seem to care about port type but 100watts is some serious power, I know what I will be looking for in my next charger :)

    • 1200 watts but this unit is 6 amps according to the specs "50V AC with max 250V - 6A/1500W" Assuming 240v not 250v the output would be 1440watts max.

      • +1

That's the output of the AC passthrough (presumably the limit of the built in breaker), not the USB.

  • Woah looks like a great deal and just what I need!

    • thank you!

  • Doesn't support USB PD so I'm not sure what the advantage of the USB C port is

    • +1

I'm pretty sure the primary draw of this is that it's a travel adapter. The USB-C is just a bonus in case you need the versatility. (to be fair, I get your point too - I don't actually have any USB-C devices that don't do PD, this will still charge them though, just… slowly).

  • To be precise it 5amps over 4 ports with 2.4A max per port. Charging four devices won't be fast and charging only two - why bother with 4 ports.

Kind of deceptive sale tactic to advertise 50% discount when the same product can be found for $29.99 every other day: https://www.amazon.com.au/Adapter-Universal-International-Wo…

    • +2

      Hi Pielo,

Those adapters have a max of 3.4 amps, while this has 5 amps so they are different.

Looks very much similar with 5V output for $5 less than your 'deal'?

        • +1

          Hi M1lad,

That is a great offer too, but it has a max speed of 3.4A total, while this has 5A (total capacity of almost 1.5 faster). Also this includes a premium travel case.

I hope that clarifies your concerns.

          • @save100: Thanks for the clarification. Good deal then. Bought one thank you :)

            • +1

@M1lad: Thank you. You just bought the last one!

In this thread; cheap Chinese death trap on sale for $29.99……

Cheaper to just get a Xiaomi powerboard ($13) and decent travel adaptor ($10), then you're not dealing with deathtraps.

    • +1

Xiamoi is a chinese death trap.

      • Open one up and/or look at reviews where others have online. I'd take points for not having insulation at top of pins (usually such insulation is standard in Australia), but beyond that I can't fault the Xiaomi designs at all.

OP, what is the RCM number for this charger?

    • +1

I can understand you mate :)

They surely do not have any RCM logo printed, so no EMC certs. But that is not the killer.

Key issue is they do not have SAA for this product for the plug, and no MEPS.

MEPES are mandatory for a range of products in Australia and New Zealand. These products must be registered through an online register and meet a number of legal requirements before they can be sold in either of these countries.

That is why people cannot see this in decent shops-because it is not legal to sell.

Of course the insurance will not cover this for any loss.

It is pity not many people understand that.

  • It’s back to $50

    • Hi LeVuHoang - thank you for your interest however the sale has now ended.

  • If you don't require USB Type C try this one which is cheaper
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/416842

Has a 5A total rating also and is built very sturdy. I picked up a couple for myself.

  • Will this work on a RCI Ovation cruise?
