Similar to this deal but it turns out if you have less than $2.50 in your bank account (that is linked to your debit card), you can still print the receipt without getting charged!

Steps to get the receipt printed:

  • Insert card to ATM and enter PIN code.
  • When asked whether you want to withdraw or check balance, choose check balance.
  • Agree to the $2.50 ATM fee
  • When asked whether you want to display your balance on screen, choose "No".
    This will make the ATM print the receipt instead of showing your balance on screen.
  • The receipt will get printed saying "INSUFFICIENT FUNDS", but you still get the free coupon part printed at the end of receipt.
  • ???
  • PROFIT!

Tested on 5 random 7-Elevens in NSW and it worked on all of them. The cashiers didn't seem to care that that the receipt said INSUFFICIENT FUNDS.

    LOL I thought I'm the only one who does it. I have a better way. You don't need to have less than $2.50 in your account, just go to 'withdrawal', and select an amount that's bigger than your bank balance. The insufficient funds receipt will come out with the voucher and no amount is charged to your account, regardless of bank. I didn't post to Ozbargain cos I thought it's a weird glitch…that 7-11 will fix if they see a post about it…too late now. Just got 3 bottles of water from a Melbourne city 7-11 haha.

    Some banks allow your account to be minus balance

    i've tried this, best way is to use a card that will not overdraft eg. prepaid visa card. Instead of choosing withdrawal, actually click on check balance on the receipt. As you would not have enough funds to pay the ATM charge, you will be provided your balance on the receipt and the voucher below and this will look better than "Insufficient funds".
