Free Iced Coffee or 600ml Water Bottle When Your Bank Account Balance Is Less than $2.50 @ 7-Eleven ATM

2620

Similar to this deal but it turns out if you have less than $2.50 in your bank account (that is linked to your debit card), you can still print the receipt without getting charged!

Steps to get the receipt printed:

  • Insert card to ATM and enter PIN code.
  • When asked whether you want to withdraw or check balance, choose check balance.
  • Agree to the $2.50 ATM fee
  • When asked whether you want to display your balance on screen, choose "No".
This will make the ATM print the receipt instead of showing your balance on screen.
  • The receipt will get printed saying "INSUFFICIENT FUNDS", but you still get the free coupon part printed at the end of receipt.
  • ???
  • PROFIT!

Tested on 5 random 7-Elevens in NSW and it worked on all of them. The cashiers didn't seem to care that that the receipt said INSUFFICIENT FUNDS.

rip up the fund part, just show the free part to the cashiers.

  • +15

It will also be free for ING users who fulfills the condition of deposit $1,000 or more per month and make 5+ card purchases settled each month and get the ATM fee rebate back.

    • +4

And Macquarie Transaction Account customers who don't have to satisfy any demanding bonus conditions. *Looks at ING*

      • +10

        but Macquarie

      • +3

To be fair, ING refunds international ATM operator fees and if you travel a bit that can add up. I also find their customer service very good.

        • +1

Not sure why there seems to be all this tribalism between ING and Macquarie customers. I have both accounts but stopped using ING in favour of Macquarie.

          • -1

            @Scrooge McDuck: What's a Macquarie?

          • @Scrooge McDuck: 1.10% interest rate though…

            • @highdealer: I keep my cash in a UBank account at 2.87 %, about $100 in a Macquarie account for ATM cash, and I put everything I can on credit then BPay it from UBank.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: I did not mention Macquarie. I merely pointed out a feature that ING has that would be quite attractive to those that travel. That, for me, is worth the conditions although I make no assumptions that it is for others.

Surely you can't be that lacking in self-awareness to see that it was your reply to CodeXD's comment - that made no mention at all about Macquarie either - that displays the tribalism you speak of? Given that, to write your last comment in reply to mine is genuinely odd.

            • -2

@dazweeja: I was referring to the pointless downvoting, and continuing the conversation. It wasn't directed at you nor did I downvote your comment. There is tribalism from both sides. So cool your jets.

Boo ING. They need to evolve from the old trick to get people to pay their salaries with them and make multiple transactions to get fee free ATMs. They have not invested in ATM infrastructure so they should be offering this service fee free by default.

      • Unless you make far (far) below minimum wage not exactly hard to make? Plus you can just arrange an automated transfer in and out if you're really bothered

      • They have not invested in ATM infrastructure so they should be offering this service fee free by default

The charge is actually through the provider of the ATM. It is because ING does not have ATM infrastructure so every withdraw will cost the user. It used to be that banks will charge people not with them to withdraw money from their ATM.

      • +5

Who cares what people think if you are poor. This is free…thatโ€™s the Ozbargain way!!

Now have to transfer bank balances to get my unlimited free coffees!!

        • +1

          Exactly.. lol..

      Hacks are deals.

    Damn if that's not dedication.

At first I thought this was some kinda pity deal, like "damn you're poor, here have some free water" lol.

    • +3

Haha. I thought exactly the same thing.
I was looking forward to reading what message they included on receipt.

      • +3

We pity your poverty with less than 2.5 in your account, here's some pity water to quench your thirst since you canโ€™t afford one

    • Damn if that's not dedication.

They should get a badge for effort lol

After this deal you won't be dry just high

    Thanks OP.

Will do catering for my office starting tomorrow.

  • +5

Reading the other deal, you could:

    a) just enter the wrong PIN and still get a receipt or
    b) just check the bin for receipts.

    • +3

I've done the wrong PIN before, it works

    • +2

I have done the wrong PIN too, but some cashiers wouldn't accept it. Guess I wasn't smart enough to rip off the the top part of receipt and keep only the free coupon.
My method works 100% of the time so far. Only one cashier got suspicious, but just told him that "I guess I had enough money for the fee but not enough to withdraw $20".

    • Yeah but how about when machines take your card and don't let you get it back after you put the wrong PIN in.
      I wouldn't risk it.

  • +6

Does the bank hit you with an overdraw/dishonour fee or something? Depending on which bank I guess. I'm with commbank and I reckon they would charge me some fee for sure.

    • -1

Commbank doesn't charge an overdraw fee if you get the account back above $0 before COB.

  • +15

    b) just check the bin for receipts.

      • I gnome what you mean.

  • Are the 7-11 ATMs still free for Commonwealth bank cards?

    • +1

      I don't think so, they've changed providers.

    • Nope :(

    • No longer Bankwest ATM ๐Ÿ’ฉ

    Genius!!

  • +3

At first glance, I thought this was a genuine good-deed/buck-up.

I've been low, many times. It warmed my heart to read it.

    Still good.

  • +2

Now this is true Ozbargain spirit. Love your niftiness.

    1. Is your bank the kind to actually acknowledge the transaction and… 'Whoops, you now have a temporary overdraft' and…

    2. Will your card get eaten by the next ATM you go to that actually swallows the card and only spits it back out at the end of a transaction? (For the wrong pin hack)

    • 'Whoops, you now have a temporary overdraft' andโ€ฆ
Will your card get eaten by the next ATM

      possible for some, and no.

  • +4

You officially have the tightest arse.

    • Hahahahaha

  • +2

    Thank F**K!

I KNEW that empty ING Direct account would finally come in handy! I LOOOOOOOOVE the iced coffee's! Best product in 7-Eleven!

    • Smiled as i read this, then glanced at the ING card for my empty ING account (moved funds since the interest rate dropped and conditions increased) and smiled again :D

  • +4

Lol true finally a black friday deal which is worth it

    • Oh man… the amount on here and it's like 'Eternal happiness for one dollar? I'd be happier with the dollar.'

Dear lord this is even more desperate than the soup guy.

    Oops! I just bought one!

    • Don't worry, you'll win more than you lose. I'd say about 85% of the time I 'have a win' thanks to OzBargain! At least now you know what to do next time

  • Hey… I just had a thought…

You know that nice little backdoor'ed 7-11 app floating around… have they recoded it yet out of the system? Nope…

Makes me think we have about a 50/50 chance of it (the ATM deal) sticking around for a while.

  • +4

This is why I love this website lol

  • thinking to try with my Citibank card which has like 50 cents on it.
but won't it overdraw it with the atm fee?

  • +1

This would make sense if we had 7-11 in Tassie; sadly not.

    • Want to make a 'family' joke but don't want to get banned.

Sadly SA misses out as well

      • SA doesnโ€™t have to miss out completely, believe SA wants some of the immigrants that are flooding melbourne and sydney … trying paying higher wages than melbourne or sydney and maybe people will move ….. iโ€™m in melbourne …please take take some of our congestion …

worked for WA during the mining boom, pay more and people will move to anywhere.

        • The hell are you going on about? SA doesn't have 7-Eleven's…

  • mm free water… does it designate what type of water…

this begger is choosy about Mount Franklin only

    • +1

7-eleven branded pure spring water only

      • From the pure springs of Mount Waverley

  • -4

this is the exact same deal as the other deal.

"use an ATM receipt to get a free ice coffee or bottle water"

    • Except using this trick it actually puts the free in free!

      • +1

so it's a "hack" of the same deal.

as the deal remains the same - the post is "how to maximise the benefit"

  • +1

This deal is design to mock us Ozbargainers isn't?

    • +3

      DILLIGAF!

It's now a game to me, being frugal is great

  • +2

Hurry up guys!! Only 7 days remaining

  • lol wtf

  • -1

    +1 for the dedication.

I rather this works at ColsWorth instead of 7-11. I would visit them everyday.

  • +4

I told my boss to take his job and shove it. We'll see who's laughing when my family subsists on Iced Coffee and bottled water. Rather than claim the bottle deposit, little Timmy's gonna be selling water bottles filled with Iced Coffee to his cashed-up Kindy friends, letting daddy retire early.

I think I asked this in store before, but you can't ice chocolate for the same price, can you? I know I can buy a hot chocolate and ice it but that would defeat the financial benefit.

  • When in debt, drink water (then I read it was for debit cards)

  • Wear sunnies standing next to the atm and offer people your โ€œpoorโ€ services by using your card
