    Nice one OP.

My wallet is exhausted. It’s now Tuesday and I’m still buying unnecessary things.

    • Ha ha.. I used to do that sometime ago :)

  • +3

    How can it be portable?

    • With a USB enclosure.

    • +3

Well it had to get to you somehow - so it must be portable.

  • +1

Why it says portable? Anyone carry this Around like USB stick?
Or we supposed to put this in an enclosure?

    • -1

      Already in an enclosure.

      • +2

So do we just need a SATA -> USB cable or something ? (excuse ignorance here)

      • But all SSD's are in an enclosure…

        • Hey but in that case all hard drives are in an enclosure. I mean the platters are inside right. Gee.

It's not in an enclosure unless it comes with a USB port on it.

  • Do you ever sleep chibot?

    • +7

I am powered by energon cubes so minimal sleep required.

  • +1

Thanks chibot, perfect Time Machine backup disc for my MacAir.

This appears to only have SATA power and data interface. Calling it portable is a bit misleading. It's no more 'portable' than any other bare drive.

Hopefully it at least comes with a SATA to USB cable but I don't see any mention of this.

    • It's portable in that you can store it in your pocket while travelling?

Seriously though, thanks, I was going to buy it, didn't realise it wasn't USB.

      • i have to agree.
this is just a regular internal SSD
it's portable just the same as an internal 3.5" HDD is - i.e. you can fit it in your pocket - but it's not a "plugNplay" external device.

unless you bought a SATA—USB cable as listed above.

  • Mine was $28.80 but thanks hell good price.

  • $28.82 for me but still a good price. Not expecting the fastest drive but it'll be in a fairly old laptop so eh

What a strange Ad in saying it is "Portable" yet is just a standard (slow) SSD internal HDD with no method of direct external connection. Portable = being able to connect/disconnect to multiple devices on the fly via eg. USB port. OK so it doesn't say "External" but that's more a play on words! Hope nobody gets misled and buys thinking it is in fact a portable drive!

As an SSD drive its rather slow at Read 212.72MB/s Write: 241.55MB/s. Would rather pay $7 more for an Intel one for say $35 locally at eg. mwave which has a Read:550MB/s, Write: 500MB/s. My opinion only though.

      My opinion only though

Definitely not only yours - not sure why this deal is so popular… Also get a 5-year warranty with the Intel.

      • Those are sequential speeds too. Random R/W speeds are no doubt abysmal. It is a good deal for a 'disposable' SSD, but for a boot drive you're better to buy a Crucial or Samsung SSD locally for ~$39 using an eBay 20% off code. Then you also don't have to worry about overseas warranty issues.

I was considering buying one for my mother's ageing 10 year old laptop, but have a feeling this EAGET wouldn't be much faster than the newer model 500GB hard disk I put in it recently which tops out about 150MB/s plus has a cache so random speeds aren't much slower for small files.

  • I assume this is TLC memory. Can anybody confirm?

  • This is a SSD, there is nothing "portable" about it that distinguishes it from a standard 2.5" SSD.

I fail to see why this is a Bargain. I recently picked up a WD Green for $27.95 Delivered, and this it twice this speed..and a established brand. And Australian Warranty

    • That was a good price. I've been keeping an eye on 120gb prices for the last 6 months and it's only dipped below $30/drive delivered a handful of times, mostly in the last few weeks.

It wont get much lower than this. Bigger brands will stop 120gb production soon, we might get a few deals on clearance stock, and then 240gb drives will start to close in on the $30 price point.

  • This looks pretty good and cheap. Thanks

    EAGET, The well known brand?
    Who makes these things?
Why are they so expensive? WD gets down to $19, and we have heard of them as a company.
Why are they so slow? Are they loaded with microSD cards in parallel?

If 500GB+ for another $10, and local warranty, there might be a reason to own one?

    Why so many + votes?
Do they have a great proven record, why the praise?

  • +1

I wasn't able to find too much about this brand but did find a YT review for a slightly different model.

I think even a WD Green would beat that. What a waste of $28.82 - I feel dumb.
