Switch to AGL Electricity - Receive 10,000 Flybuys Points and Credit up to $150 ($75 Electricity, $75 Gas)

170

Just switched my electricity (don't have gas) over to AGL.

10,000 flybuys points (Valued at $50) and a bonus $75 credit for switching ($150 if you switch both electricity and gas)

The daily charge fee and usage charges were all cheaper than my current rates with Energy Australia.

Not sure if targeted but I've linked the page it sent me from the email I received.

  • sniffed around the FAQs a few days ago. Lots of talk about percentages and flybuys but NO talk about the actual rates!!!
"How much are you charging?" is not an FAQ?!?!?

Use this website for a regulated comparison

    • Beat me to it! This is the site I used when I was shopping around for a new Electricity provider.

I also find wattever.com.au good for comparisons.

    • great website, though not ALL discounts were included. e.g. with energy australia and Velocity account, i could get a further 18% off, but the website didnt account for this even though it said "discounts applied". On top of this run it through Cashrewards for $70 cashback. YMMV

I came here to bad-mouth AGL, but it seems they've lifted their game:
    'Most Improved' on https://www.greenelectricityguide.org.au/

  • Mine only shows" $25 online sign-up credit" - am I missing something or is this targeted? Am in QLD - not sure if this might change things?

    • I think it might have been targeted - or they may have even rescinded the offer.

When I click through now on the email I received it shows $25.

  • Looks like you would have paid about $9.32 more with the AGL Essentials plan - I guess if I switched in then back out I could take advantage of the points and $65 in credit! QLD Address

Argh….these deals pop up for energy providers and still none are cheaper than Alinta has been for us. On the bright side we pay less for electricity but I love bonuses and free stuff!

    • Yep Alinta has been great for a lot of people. Switched to Alinta, AGL offered to match, then increased discount to 30%…

  • AGL works out to be $400 more expensive in a year than Simply Energy, so why go with them exactly?

    • In my area AGL works out cheaper than Simply Energy using the vic gov comparison site.

      • Oh, didn't realise different areas have different rates. Amazing how it can be so different.

        • Yeah I know. It really does pay to shop around!

    • It depends on your usage patterns, etc.

I get the best rates with Amaysim, which most people say they are a ripoff.

My GF has 6.5kw of solar PV and gets the best deal with the AGL Solar Savers which gives no discount off the electricity rates but a 20c NFIT.

That's why it pays to shop around and use your last 12 months of utility bills to compare prices.

  • The $75 bonuses may not apply if you've previously had AGL. We switch providers every 6 months or so, in order to take advantage of better rates and promos, and we were with AGL 6 months ago. The pop-up help bubble on the $75 bonus says "… AGL may exclude accounts that have received a once-off credit in the previous 12 months from receiving additional once-off credits."

Does anyone have experience with this? Has anyone had a sign up promo more than once in a 12 month period?

  • Chased this up yesterday. Gone from website. Live chat informed me the sign up offers are now $25/fuel.
