Its not a DJI Tello FYI. Its a Ryze Tello, made with DJI. Dont be fooled into thinking its a small DJI drone, its not.

      Is there a difference?

      • Yep. You don't tell everyone that Intel made your computer if the only Intel thing you got inside is the CPU with a mismatch of other components from MSY.

Jokes aside - It isn't too bad of an entry level drone. Would recommend people fork this out to play with before committing to a proper DJI drone.

        • Sorry confused - is there another product called Tello made by DJI or is this the only product called "Tello" with or without the Ryze moniker?

          • @bargainshooter: The Tello drone (as featured here) is an entry level drone made by a company called Ryze, however it features parts/technology developed by DJI (and Intel) and is sold through the DJI store.

@bargainshooter: There is only one Tello. Although it's mostly referred to as DJI Tello, it's not made by DJI directly.

  • Not from official DJI Ebay store. It is from D1Store (d1store.com.au) and only an authorised dealer.

  • Skip this and spend the extra on a spark if you're looking for an entry-level drone. I know the spark is a lot more.. but it's night and day different.

It's also over 100g so isn't excluded in CASA in the same way sub 100g drones are

      • +1

Bingo. There's not that many under 100g better than this on the market right now.

        • Out of curiosity what is the 100g reference you are making?

I have just bought a Tello for the kids for Xmas as a starting point so keen to understand this (based in Vic if that makes a difference in terms of operating obligations).

            @jollster101: https://www.casa.gov.au/modelaircraft

If your drone weighs more than 100 grams:

            1. You must keep your drone at least 5.5km away from controlled aerodromes (usually those with a control tower)
            2. You may fly within 5.5km of a non-controlled aerodrome or helicopter landing site (HLS) only if manned aircraft are not operating to or from the aerodrome. If you become aware of manned aircraft operating to or from the aerodrome/ HLS, you must manoeuvre away from the aircraft and land as soon as safely possible. This includes:
not operating your drone within the airfield boundary (without approval)
not operating your drone in the approach and departure paths of the aerodrome (
              without approval)
      • @wolfshooter The adds say that it only weighs 80g, so it should be exempt from the CASA flight restrictions?

    • Any good deals for the spark on ebay or WWW?

  • Look the price on these Tello's is simply not good enough for anyone to post or pull trigger atm - you disagree? Your wrong it's really that simple. They are everywhere akin to the mini Nes, like an epidemic. They need to be under $100, rephrase, they SHOULD be under 100, we're paying too much.
