Globird Raising Rates - Substantially!

Long time lurker, infrequent poster.
Thought I'd share the email received yesterday from Globird about raising their electricity prices in Vic - for me at least!

Increase of 7 cents per kilowatt (up to 30kwh at this rate) - now $0.2717.
Increase of 20 cents per day usage charge - now $0.7865.

(This is after the 35% discount I'm getting.)

I've got to do the shoparound again, and it may be that this is still the cheapest for my household. (Around 14kwh / day). After all, according to my notes from last Jan, most suppliers charge at least $1.00 daily usage charge.

However, that 7 cents per kilowatt increase puts its rate at above everyone else's rates from my Jan notes. And at 14 kwh / day, that's another dollar a day, even if it's 20c a day cheaper for the usage charge - therefore still 80c more than other suppliers, per day, possibly. I encourage all other Globird customers to do a similar calculation and see if it's worth changing!

I recently switched to them for their cheaper gas, and I admit I will go whoever charges me the least - I have no brand loyalty. But Globird has been a great provider with amazing rates, and I appreciate the money I've saved with them over the past year!

  • I am with you. Got the same email. I will swap before the rates rise.

  • Check Alinta

  • Is it targeted? I didn't get an email.

  • Wow! I just left globird and moved to Tango. Were only slightly dearer than currently paying, but wanted to lock in 2 year price before december price rises all suppliers tend to do.

  • Just looked up rates for me, and your right, new prices are not competitive. Were best prices, now uncompetitive. Though, probably need to see what others do, next month.

  • Just got my price rise email

  • I'm moving Electricity from GloBird to Tango (VIC). Fixed prices (ex GST) 91c/day and 14.87 ¢/kWh flat rate, plus $50 credit/incentives after two bill cycles. Rates won't be increased for two years, but no contract.
My new GloBird rates would be 0.869/day and 17.76 ¢/kWh (First 20.00 Kwh/Day - I don't use more than that)

Still considering gas options, but for now it seems GloBird still has competitive prices using the AMEX discount.

In summer, I spend less gas and more electricity (A/C), which means that GloBird's significant increase is a rip-off.

Tango is the retail brand of Pacific Hydro, only available in Victoria.

    • With Globird too. I just did a compare and the deal that came up from Tango differs…what is the name of the offer you are flipping to?
      VIC Home eSelect - 1 January - 31 December
      Tariff(excl. GST)
      Supply charges - 99 ¢/day
      Flat:
      First 11.18 per day 19.28 ¢/ kWh
      Balance 20.89 ¢/ kWh

Best ranked offers seemed to pop up Amaysim, Simply Energy and Tango for Electricity

      • That`s because I selected the flat rate and you selected a different plan. The offer ID is TAN70832MR

  • Mine went up a bit but still cheapest for me.

Refer a friend for Globird is back, $50 for both. PM me for referral code.

    • where do i enter the referral details ?

  • You need a link, which I or any existing customer can send you

  • I did a year on year comparison - Supply charges have increased 33.1% YoY and usage charges have increased 58.9% YoY from January 2019. Exorbitant!

I entered my own NMI in the quotes section of their online website and got back usage rates 24% LOWER than the new rates. This seems like very questionable conduct.

As far as Im concerned this appears to be a bait and switch tactic and a way to get up on top of the comparison page.
