720p display and gigantic notch. Middle end mediatek CPU and no Android One / Treble… Hmmm, that's too many compromises for $300 dollars. The only cool thing I can see is the side fingerprint reader.

$300 dollars generally can get you a full HD display, Stock Android though not always NFC + B28. But closer to $400 and you will have a phone with zero compromises (FHD, notchless, NFC, B28, Big battery, stock android, something like the mid end Nokia's or Motorola's for example).

I'd pay the extra and grab the Moto G6 Plus or pay $20 extra for the vanilla G6.

I thought all devices that ship with 8.0 onwards are required to have Treble?

      • +1

Having Treble doesn't guarantee updates. It only makes it easier for phone makers to give you updates. It's all up to Kogan to update their phones.

    • What's the best $250-$300 phone at the moment? Any with 5.5 screen 3gb ram 32gb storage and Android one?

    Impressive 3250mAh battery

There is nothing impressive about a battery that small on a phone with a 5.7" screen.

    • My thoughts exactly. Anything less than 5000mAh is trash these days, far as I'm concerned.

Having owned 2 Kogan phones (Agora 6 and Agora 8 Plus) and a friend with a 8 Plus; I wouldn't recommend a Kogan phone to anyone.

They always seem great out the box but they develop weird issues like screen defects, overheating and WiFi issues. Also Kogan have never released any update that I know of.

    • I had Agora 4G+ and it had one security patch in its entire lifetime. That was released by BenQ the OEM.

Its probably the same phone. Specs are the same.

      • and a bit cheaper

        • yeh it is about 211aud plus GST will be like 232. so i guess for extra 67 dollars u do get some sort of australian warranty/easier returns.

edit: if you can get kogan vouchers its even better.

but still not an ideal screen resolution for its size…

      • It's not the same phone. 5.8 vs 5.7" Screen, and the china-phone has more bands:
        LTE: B1/3/5/7/8/28A vs

        FDD-LTE: B1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 12 / 13 / 17 / 18 / 19 / 20 / 25 / 26 / 28A / 28B, TDD-LTE: B34 / 38 / 39 / 40 / 41

Both phones probably aren't getting updates though :)

How is this compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 9?

    • +2

I prefer this Kogan one. The Note 9 looks weird with the hole left from the missing SPen

      • +1

I just used blutack to make mine waterproof again.

    • No comparison… This XS completely destroys the Note 9. Go watch Phil Schiller keynote

  • even my Granny's 2-yr old note 4X has FHD, SD SOC, and she reports 2-wk standby, good receiption w/o b28.

which only cost around USD150 (cannot remember exact figure)

  • Few days ago there was a deal of Nokia 8, with all those features (NFC, b28,…) with just $299.

I would consider Nokia over this phone.

But this has XS in the name and the notch! /s

Interestingly, having a notch is considered a feature in many brands, especially lower end brand. I prefer notch less, actually I don't even care about bezelless.

        The XS stands for…Xtra Sh*t?

  • Kogan went to my school. I remember him designing this rather than taking notes in maths class

    • Did he normally finish his lunch?
