EB Games Trade in - Can You Use The Store Credit Online?

When you take games or a console into the store and they give you "store credit" what form is this? Is it an EB Games Gift Card? Does anyone know if it can be used on their online store?

unless the system has changed since I quit 18 months ago (I doubt it), they have no "store credit" system. when you have traded money you don't spend, it's placed on a pre-order, which is then cancelled when you wanna spend it and the value is moved to pay for whatever item you want later on.

    • Interesting! This is from their website, but I guess it is pretty ambiguous.

"All you have to do is follow three easy steps:

Grab your old games and consoles and bring them into your local EB Games store with the required identification.
A store associate will quickly tell you how much store credit your games are worth.
Use your credit towards anything else in store!"

Because legally this is not really what their trade-in regulations actually allow them to do. You are meant to spend it immediately, this pre-order cancelling system is a workaround for the customer's benefit. Remember they are not allowed to give cash for trades in most states.

    • Wow I had always assumed they just chuck it on a gift card for you

I have never traded anything though, terrible value

Yes, you get a gift card which can be used online and never expires.

    • Most stores won't give you a gift card for trade-ins, pretty sure it's against company policy

      • Maybe different in NSW, but in QLD it's not weird.
Of course they try to force you to preorder something but you can alwasy do that, then cancel for a gift card.

  • What did EB Games say when you asked them?

    • They asked me what state I was in and haven't replied since :)

  • Update: According to EB Games, in SA they will give you a gift card for trade in value. Apparently it differs massivley by state, hence all the misinformation out there :)
