I noticed the China/Hong Kong sellers that falsely put "Ships from Australia" in their listing do not incur GST. I ordered $800 worth from one where the listing said Australia but their profile said Hong Kong. No GST was charged.

The ones that said their location was China however had GST.

    • bought mi max 3 without gst. ships from australia. ebay. shops from australia tag.

in my case actually the phone originally was in china/hk.
they sent the phone to their sydney warehouse, then they fwd it.
      so yeah, complicated.

      • The seller profile will always say the real location.

They normally don't have an AU warehouse. What happens is that they use Auspost China who contract Dpex and Ubi. Once it reaches Australia the couriers pack it up and transfer to Auspost.

What did the ATO say when you asked them?

      Duh.

      Ask OzBargain!

      • Well, in this case you really wouldn't ask the ATO that.

  • wrong subject "Avoiding GST on Importing Items on eBay"
correct should be "help me commit a crime"

    • I don't think it's a crime but if it is so what? The government is about removing your money to give it to wealthy people, they're scumbags.

      • I don't think it's a crime

        +1 for this.

      "help me commit a crime"

Finding ways to reduce ones GST liability on LVT isn't an offence.

  • Don't vote for Liberal or Labour who introduced and kept the GST.

Mind you, the population was so braindead it voted for Liberals promising a GST and that taxes would go down (really, the voters were this stupid) so I don't have high hopes.

Last state election the Liberal Party woman who "represents" me put her fat face on a phamphlet which claimed she was all about saving 15% from people's power bills and delivered it to me. The 15% had an asterix next to it and there were no rates published as per usual with electricity so it was more horseshit.

I found it insulting that a member of the party that created the problem was now treating me as though I'm retarded by sending me this phamplet with a pathetic solution which was fake in any case.

    Yep, she got in.
