How Do Referral Links Work?

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked but could only find post regarding how to setup a referral. Can anyone explain how these referral links in posts work? for example im looking at signing up for a service with Tangerine NBN and i see on their posts a random generated refferal code for $25 each. Can i use this code to get this deal? If so where do i use it? I see the Tangerine site has a referral code spot. Is this where i would use this? Or is the code specific to deals posted on the site here?

    if you clink on the referral link it will take you to the tangerine NBN website automatically and fill in the referral itself.

      Only thing i can see to click on is the referral link button which pops up a box with a randomly generated referrer. I doesnt seem to give any option to go to the website to start the sign up process. Im talking the little grey box for referral.

      Thanks for that. Yeah spoken to a rep and they seem to be of the impression the referrals arent above board. They also suggested the mungi25 code. Wasnt sure if that worked for a new connection or not though. But will use that.

      yeah alas Aussie just isnt competative for what i need. Its a holiday house so need something cheap and unlimited for steaming. Tangerine appears to be the best option for the first 12 months.

    Referral codes that are posted online will be de-activated and will not work. This is clearly stated in the terms and conditions provided when a referral code is provided to a valid customer.

    I think something is wrong or broken for Tangerine referrals (we at least for me). I've referred 7 this year, and only 1 has been applied to my account. The only one to work was on the last invoice, and a recent referral said they reached out to Tangerine as the discount didn't apply, Tangerine said they needed my referral code again, plus account# & full name - all to verify the referral. So assuming that got fixed & that is the 1 successful referral, 6 others silently didn't work. That's not great :-(
    → I'm assuming all 6 used my code, I got confirmation that some did, but maybe not all.
    Anyone else having referral issues?

      With Tangerine Telecom referral, the requester generates a private message which you can reply. However often the requester would generate multiple private messages and use the first one that replied. There's really no guarantee that someone would use your code when you replied a PM.

    I've had a few issues of late - Tangerine seem be rejecting referrals of those who use my code, they have to be added manually and I have to give my full name and acct number to the other person. Seems to be a fair bit of hassle. It is a fairly new account too.

      Not sure if they're "rejecting" or just a lousy system. But I have to agree you need to keep a close eye on your referrals to make sure they're applied accordingly. I had to contact Tangerine twice as the referral credit didn't apply.

          Same. I've had plenty of people use my link and not once has it applied.

          They clearly aren't honouring the deal.

            @Aradina: Agreed.

            It seems to be an one-sided referral. Only the referees seems to receive the upfront $25 discount during their sign ups.
            The $25 referrer discount does not get applied.

            I have had plenty of referees reply back to me saying they have used my code. None of these $25 referral credits applied to my account, unless of course they were all lying to me about using my code.

    Tangerine does not honour the deal. First sign up applied, all other referrals “not in system”.

    Shady tactics from them…
