Do they charge $250 a month?

    • No. You can find the prices for all the different options by following the link to the deal.

      • Just having a dig at someone on ozbargain who posted in forums section about cancelling gym membership whichbwas $250 a month

Do they charge $250 a month?

      That's the joining fee.

      • Joining fee is $85. They'll usually waive that if you go into the club and act indecisive about signing up.

    • Platinum membership friends and family for my wife is discounted to $84/month and I got friends and family 50% off at $52/month

      • How do you get the friends and family prices?

    Just for lolz

Home Membership (one club): $90/fortnite + $85 start up fee direct debit

wtf is start up fee vs membership fee? Such a rip off

    • Which Home Club is that? I'm seeing the top Platinum membership as being $60/fortnight for 12 months or $56/fortnight for 18 months.

        Sydney CBD

        • Huh. Weird. The Home membership for those gyms is way more expensive than the Platinum membership that gives you access to them all anyway.

          • @SeaWolf au: If you were to sign up for a Platinum then use one of those clubs more than your nominated home club, they automatically change your membership to that club and increase your payments. It's the same as Anytime does.

No wait. The platinum membership at THAT club is cheaper than the home membership at that club! Wtf?

            • @[Deactivated]: For the Platinum memberships the Home club doesn't matter, you can use any of the gyms (including Passport level) as much as you like because the Platinum membership is the same price no matter where you sign up. If you sign up over the phone they'll quote you the Platinum prices then ask you which club you want to pick your stuff up from and that's your Home club. The Home club just becomes a thing in the system. Same with Passport membership, you can use any of the Passport clubs (but not the Platinum ones) and it doesn't matter.

You only get tied to one gym if you pick the Home membership, but that it's more expensive than the Platinum membership just makes no sense at all. They only used to offer Home at a handful of gyms so maybe it's some quirk of them making it more widely available. Surprised no one in their marketing team has realised this yet though.

You gotta pay them money to take your money..

  • +10

Every gym will waive this shit. It’s just an illusion to make it look like you’re getting a deal.

Start with no joining fee and then start the real negotiation.

    • Exactly right!

  • +14

But we still have to give them money just to join and be locked into a minimum 12 month contract which after which time they make cancelling overly complicated? Lol no thanks.

No membership Fee but Start up fee applies lol!! what a load of crap

Yeah, I don't neg on a deal often but this is just abhorrent. Plenty of 24 hour gyms give you a much better deal (some as low as $300/year) and access to a tonne of equipment if that's your thing. I go to Jetts personally because it's within walking distance and while it's not fancy, it's enough for me to get moving and all for $580/year).

By comparison a 'non-platinum' club costs $50/fortnight or $1,300/year at FF on a 12 month contract. FFS.

    • Which ones are $300/year? Looking to join a 24/7 gym

      • +1

I was thinking of Derrimut. They had a $300/year deal earlier but it's now $399. Still, for the value, I think they're good.

    • There's a reason they're called Finance First

It don't matter whether you're training at a fancy gym like Fitness First or el cheapo gym with a warehouse setting. If you are not committed, you won't see any result.

    Pro tips for beginners:
    1. Correct form of every movement is important, you need to know why you're doing it and how to do it properly.
    2. Check your ego at the door, if it's too heavy, drop the weight.
    3. Work the muscle, don't just move the weight.
    4. Result is made of from: 70% diet, 10% rest and 20% training.
    5. Be realistic with your target, don't set your expectation too high otherwise you'd lose motivation when you don't achieve it.

  • I hate paying $69 for the FOB key, try to negotiate for a month free to cover the fob key but they won't give me so I join Crunch heaps cheaper lol

Oh wow, I feel for any body who falls victim to these & $#@!&. Avoid them.

  • +3

They do make it very difficult to cancel your membership.

  • +1

Sooooo… no membership fees, but there's a start up (avoiding the word "joining") fee?

And they are giving you a little over 1 month (10th January isn't that long away, but sounds like it) on a 12 or 18m contracted term.

Can someone please explain to me how this is a bargain?

    • it's not lol
