[TAS] Compressed Air 400ml (Spray Duster) $3 @ Officeworks Hobart

190

The Cleanrange 400ml Spray Duster 400ml

Been a while since the last compressed air post. Perfect for cleaning computer fans - keyboards, cpu, power supply, graphics cards etc. I also use it to clean the dust out of my Dyson… works great.

Last time for the same product was $5 at The Good Guys - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/187231
Can’t find any similar generic cans for less than $5 at KMart, BigW etc doing a quick search.

Note: Product is not on the Officeworks website. Product ID=CRPAIRDUST
So maybe limited to Hobart as a clearance. Worthwhile asking if your in store though

Happy de-dusting all

This should be good for my new diet I'm starting this summer

    • Nothing thinner than air. ;)

  • whats the cheap alternative to clean my NAS? have to be safe on pcb motherboard etc. thanks

    • +2

I use my air compressor with the dust gun attachment. I turn the pressure down a bit though.

Been doing it this way for years with no drama. Have 5 PC's in the house so buying compressed air in a can isn't cost effective.

      • Any sample link for that air compressor? Not the fancy one, just simple and cheap. Thanks.

    • Use the air from your spare tyre. Then go to the petrol station and pump it back up for free.

      • +1

OK, I just moved my PC's (5) out to the driveway. Now what do I do?

Or was I supposed to bring the wheel into the house?

    • The best by far is to use a clean and soft artist's brush and a vacuum cleaner. That actually cleans the dust off AND doesn't blow it everywhere.

These sprays arent so good in removing -in dust on my motherboard.

$5 everyday at Kmart for those who don't live in Tassie.

    • +2

      which is probably, everyone…. :D

    • I asked in store and apparently kmart doesn't stock it anymore. A quick look online shows "in store only" with no stores showing stock anywhere i checked.

      • Same here. Was running low on supply of air and went to Kmart in lidcombe and they say they haven't restocked the item in a long time.

Shame because the Kmart ones are usually one of the cheapest.

        • It's the type of thing I put off buying because of the price. Until today i didn't know kmart had them at all. Next "cheapest" i know of is the bunnings one for $8 a 400gm or ml can.

      • +2

Thanks. Makes sense for the bunnings brand "Tradeflame air duster" also. I always thought is was a weird brand name for that product. lol

Just to clarify it's a 300gm can not 400 like I thought it was. I have never bought it, but the name kinda makes it sound like the link you have for the kmart one.

  • Cheaper than Jaycar. They want $20 a can, the crooks.

    • +11

It's not hard to be cheaper than Jaycar

  • Thanks OP,you don't realize how handy this stuff can be until you have some.

  • How long can you spray the can???

    • +1

Depends how strong your finger is

  • +3

Pretty good to freeze off warts as well. :)

Just get some cotton tips and spray the tip with the can upside down.

3 bucks for 400ml or 25 for 80ml. You decide.

Master level ozbargainer: Crush 1 tablet of aspirin, add few drops of water to make it into paste, apply it to warts and cover it with band aid, leave it for few days, reapply as needed. Costs: less than $1.

      • Costs less that $1 per application.

However it takes > 450 applications to make the wart vanish.

  • +1

Isn't this still incredibly expensive, given that you can get things like degreaser for $1 at times and this is literally just compressed air?
Obviously I'm not going to downvote it, because it might well be the cheapest compressed air out there. Though you could try degreaser on your electronics instead! :D

    • It's not compressed air, it's sold as that but it's various compressed gases that differs by manufacturer.

      • I think its manufactured in Norway or somewhere too, so you get 'international flavour' in the cost

  • +4

sorry OP - so how much is it in AUD?

    • $3, at hobart officeworks, may be different to your store buy for the $7 off it's worth a look.

I think Homer was getting in on a “clean” Tasmanian joke…..it’s great when nobody asks about the scar.

        • hahaha spot on…thanks for clarifying though @wired! ;)

  • I thought about buying one of those pony bottles I see the scuba guys with and using that instead of these and get it refilled at the dive shop, but a new pony tank is $400!

    • An interesting idea.. A cheaper way would be to use a soda stream, or if you didn't mind lugging around a bit of weight, getting a bigger bottle from a brew shop (like this one), and run air tubing to one of these

  • Make sure you disconnect fans from headers, or immobilise the blades somehow if you are blowing dust off the fans

If you are doing heaps of cleaning like this there is an 'Datavac esd safe air duster' for under $200

    • I got a Metrovac Datavac ESD 500 about $120 last year. Works great, comes with decent set of accessories.

  • Thanks OP bought 10 packs in preparation for the planet Druidia invasion.

  • Good for cleaning dust off lego??

    • No, bloody useless. Use a small soft brush and a VACUUM cleaner.

Pro tip: Make a filter for the vacuum nozzle using old pantyhose, cheesecloth or similar, so that if you dislodge some part it doesn't vanish up the hole.

      • What about this hurricane thing linked below?

        • I've seen those and I reckon it might be worth trying. However from my experience you need the paint brush abrasion to shift the dust that is stuck in crevices, Lego logo etc.

What I mean by that is that you need to loosen the dust first… and once it's airborne then a normal vacuum in the general area will suck it down.

The dust lizard is great for getting that sandy grit out of the bottom of cutlery drawer and similar.

          • @llama: Yer I’m trying to find the best way to clean my Lego sets without pulling them apart and washing etc

Just wanna keep them together but clean

            • @Twisty: I am cleaning heaps of Star Wars sets at the moment. The soft brush and vacuum method means that you can clean all figures in position.

  • I got sick of paying for this stuff so I've just ordered a "Hurricane Dust Lizard" which I'm hoping does the trick. Cheaper here than advertised on TV too.

    • Beat me to it. ROFL

Everytime I see the product, I hum that tune.
