good cheap earphones like $12 Senheiser?

Hi everyone and happy april fools. Anyways, my current earphones have finnaly ripped apart as I've treated them like shit.
i.e
-wrapped the wires around my phone, so the wire bends and pull from socket
-fall asleep with them on, so i end up lying on them and put tension on the wires
-when i put my phone in my pocket, the wire also bends at the end
-I also use them for about 15 hours a day

So my humble question is can anyone suggest a really GOOD but cheap pair of earphones or headphones; i'll buy both, but earphones for public and headphones for private (they make me feel too "gansta" wearing it, so i just….cant). Price must be below $20-includ. shipping unless you can justify more expensive ones.

Also can som1 tell me how to treat them? I run through earphones like a box of chocolates. One moment there there, the next there goners… I've been through like 10 last year.

OH right the $12 senheisers (r they any good?):

  • Sennheiser CX55

i have no experience with them
    Most likely factory seconds

    In-ear Stereo Earbud

I wouldn't recommend these, they are fuzzy, and the ear bud's cotton is stuck on by glue, it is not a metal mesh(unlike other in-ear earphones)

    • howd u noe this, do u hav one? the reviews on dx seem to go on and on bout the so called "quality of these for that price" so thats y i'm not too sure.

@the senheisers; hmm. they're like half the price of the CX300. so its tempting, even though its factory seconds.

  • If you don't mind

Just purchased a set of cx300 after reading a couple of good reviews towards these headphones. They were meant to replace the original headphones supplied with Samsung YP-UI MP3 player. I must say that I was totally disappointed with the results. The bass frequencies sounded rather muted coupled with too much emphasis on treble sound. They sounded very unnatural and flat compared with the original set. I must say they do no justice to the well known Sennheiser brand. Report Reply

    • yeah there are many fake sennheisers out there, esp on ebay

  • For IEMs, find ones you like then search it on eBay or SI.

Or you can buy a set of portable headphones. Similar thread here.

Price must be below $20-includ. shipping unless you can justify more expensive ones.

If you want full-size headphones for $20, you could try second hand places if you still want quality.
If it's too much for you then I guess you have no choice but to stick to your $2.85 earbuds.

    • wow thanks for the threads. very useful XD

I've got a pair of the Kanen KM-92's. They're good value for money imo. Build quality isn't the greatest, especially the jack, but at ~$5 you can probably afford to buy a couple. Sound isolation is decent, bass isn't too heavy. Very good in the mids and reasonable in the highs.

For good low-budget headphones, KOSS KSC75 is often recommended. Haven't bought them yet myself but there's plenty of reviews out there.

And quick tip: if you're wrapping your earphone/headphone wires around something such as your phone, unplug the jack. Keeping it plugged in can cause quite a lot of strain and is often what causes your jack to break. I personally put my earphones into a small case thingo which my Ultimate Ears came with. Being lazy and just stuffing them into my pockets is what caused my last few earphones to break.

    • yup, u just describe what i do with my earphones perfectly. Gonna try the unplugging thingo. Also, google tells me to buy a heatshrink. Any1 tried this yet? and does it work//

@the KAneN KM92, all i can say is wow, its wood. Oh btw when u say build quality isnnt good, u mean their not durable? if so these will be horrible for me,….

      • Haha yeahh I wasn't too keen on the wood design either but it seems to work alright.

And I'm not saying the build quality is bad, just that these aren't made as well as the more expensive earphones (obviously). For 5 bucks each I guess you can't expect these to be the best, although being wood they are somewhat solid. As for personal experience, I've only used these at home (use my ultimate ears when out) so not sure about the durability of these when out and about.

Again, for $5 even if they don't last it isn't too much of a waste. Only thing is that shipping from FocalPrice takes forever- anywhere from 2-8 weeks

        • that wood design reminds me of Skullcandy

      • I have a few pairs of Kanens from Focalprice. They are good and bloody cheap!

Whilst the MD-52s (like Kego mentions below) were recommended to me, I find that I use the KM-92s almost all the time. The wood is cool… but the main reason is that they have a slightly punchier sound.

The cable of the MD-52's is woven cloth, whilst the KM-92's is a plastic. I didn't see ANY problems with the build quality of either of them. They are probably both fakes… I just looked at the boxes and find that the MD-52's are "Kanon" and the KM-92's are "Kanen" and have a different logo :-)

        • I've got a pair of MD-52's as well and I can assure you they aren't fakes- 'Kanen' changed their name from 'Kanon' so some of the older stock will still have that branding. Although if they were fakes they'd be damn good ones :)

They also have a website however you won't find either of the KM-92 or MD-52 there- probably because they've been superseded. If you do a search of 'Kanen' on focalprice or DX you'll find a lot more models and varieties, some of which appear on the website.

Also, with regards to build quality I personally found the KM-92's more solid than the MD-52's plastic shell. Although with that said, I guess I was being a bit picky when criticising their durability. Maybe I just expect too much from $5 (ozbargain effect) =P. I'm sure you'll be happy with either one (or maybe just buy both haha)

  • @leonheart1, I found this for under $20 and its full sized

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-SHP2500-00-Television-Headph…

if u buy on 14th april, its 20% off. so its only $14 with free shipping

  • I can't seem to find them on focal price anymore, but these are great. I've had them since July last year (and still use them daily!) according to the receipt. They've been used at least 2x daily Mon-Fri on the bus to school and basically just shoved in my pockets. They also have this fabic cord casing which makes it harder to tangle compared to the rubber ones which is a good +

    • wow thanx. since its durable, i'll probally get these if the sound is ok. Whats it like, the sound quality?

      • I'm not really an audiophile, but they sound great on my nokia 5800. I've tried various Kanon headphones from DX/focal price and most sound similar, so buy one that you like the look of. I had the wooden 1s and they were also pretty good but didn't like how it was difficult to untangle since they have really soft plastic cables.

  • Hey, Sorry for the change of topic but can anyone recommend me cheap/good earbuds?? Dont like the in ear type cause it makes me seem deaf to other people

  • are they good ?? Wouldnt normally buy anything from JB :p

    • -there real
      -there sennheiser
      -local store
      -reasonalbly cheap for AUS
      -receipt+warranty (i thinks)

so u cant really go wrong.

me on the other hand want cheapEST + quality so these arent 4 me. i'm planning to buy both the kanens and the $12 sensheiser. im also still looking 4 a full sized headphones though!
