  • I didnt even follow the whole mybattlefield controversy which everyone is attributing to this game flopping. This is just a horribly rushed game. Gonna guess EA is to blame yet again.

    • +8

      It's a marketing flop, that's about it.

      • +7

Judging by this early discounting, I'd say it's a day one sales flop too. Good for us though!

      • +1

or in old school terms - a PR disaster :)

    • +24

It's not rushed though. It's awesome. Anyone hating on it is doing it for the memes.

      • +6

Agree Joaby, it is an awesome game and leagues better than BF1 IMO. Playing with a full squad of mates is brilliant. Highly recommended for an online shooter at this price.

      • +14

When you say a game is going to take place in WWII you expect to mainly play in the renown battles to really simulate you taking part in history. Omaha Beach, Dunkirk, Battle of Britain, Battle of the Bulge instead there’s Rotterdam City..

Also gamers hate having SJW concepts forced down their throat. Banning the word ‘Nazi’ in lobby chat is one thing, banning the word ‘white person’ is on a whole new level. This, among many historical inaccuracies has left a bad aftertaste to many BF loyal fans. Developers, or publisher influence, really need to take a step back from pushing an agenda.

Personally I love the gameplay, if you can ignore certain nuisances with it being a WWII game then it’s fantastic with friends.

        • +9

Gamers: EA RUSHES THEIR GAMES AND JUST MAKES THE SAME THING ALL THE TIME
Also Gamers: EA RUSHES THEIR GAMES AND WHY DIDN'T THEY GIVE US THE SAME MAPS AS LAST TIME

Damned if you do… Not to mention Rotterdam and Devastation are awesome maps. You could call Rotterdam Paris and people would love it. Same with Devastation, if it was called Berlin people would sploosh over it.

And they're not cramming SJW concepts down people's throats. Adding in additional models doesn't cram anything anywhere. There were Africans and women in WW2. They've banned certain words because memelords spend entire games complaining about dumb shit, and their complaints are quelled if every time they try to bring up certain ideas they just see ***** ****** instead. They could always go the Rainbow Six route and straight up ban people who insist on dropping N-bombs and what not.

Battlefield has always steered clear of explicitly labelling the German army as Nazis, has always avoided the swastika in their game since BF1942. So any real Battlefield loyal fan would be comfortable with the liberties DICE has taken with history because they have always made adjustments to accommodate as many people as possible.

As you say though, the gameplay is good. None of the other stuff matters in the slightest. Gamers got whipped up into a frenzy over nothing because memes aren't dreams any more, they win elections and make people hate games they'd otherwise love.

          • +1

@Joaby: "GAMERS" isn't one person. As it is a broad term encompassing a large crowd, of course you will always get a multitude of opinions.
Acting like "GAMERS" is one hivemind that contradicts itself is obnoxious.

            • @sinewaves7: Actually that contradictory concept is what I was trying to highlight and mock, as the comment above mine in the chain declared unilaterally that 'gamers' hate having SJW concepts forced down their throats.

            • -1

@sinewaves7: Gamers are playing games now?

        • +3

I can ignore the chat stuff, I always have it off as it is always dribble or whinging lol

Historical inaccuracies are fine too, I just like the setting, annoyed there wasnt wake island though!

          • +4

@JMxoxo: Wake Island is such a good map and it's probably the only thing I think is really missing from BFV. But I was talking about this with some mates the other day - it's actually a fantastic example of why we don't need 'classic' WW2 scenarios. Nobody talked much about the Battle of Wake Island until Battlefield. The reason it's beloved is because it's such good map design, so well crafted a map. To the extent that over time people preferred Wake to Omaha in BF1942, despite Omaha being a battle of renown, what people actually want is great map design.

            • +1

@Joaby: Yeah Omaha was pretty bland as a map, just a corridor of bullets

            • +2

@Joaby: Pretty sure they said they are going to add Pacific theater maps later on, so Wake Island will probably be added

        • -4

I am 10/10 against forcing anything in my games, and if I had the time, I'd join you in this thread, but I don't, so I just have one thing to say real quick.

With regards to banning "white person" it seems kinda dumb on the surface. But TBH, it's like when 10 year olds go around yelling "mod: removed" in their games (assuming that got deleted, it was the n word twice, and then an English cigarette twice), that's not super nice, and it's fine for them to block that in most people's eyes. Well, I mean, in 2018 being a whiteboi is about the only thing anyone feels comfortable yelling at and treating like shit unconditionally, so I mean, depending on how you look at it, blocking out a phrase like that is not the worst thing, as it might very well be done to stop idiots from going around and implying white people are any lesser than any other people.

We all just people, and when it comes to a game, the last thing anyone should be thinking about is the color of another virtual player that you'll likely never see in real life. If banning certain key phrases stops idiots from being idiots, I'm not necessarily for it, I still think you should just say whatever the (profanity) you want in a shooty shooty bang bang game and if some rando can't handle that, they can turn off chat (like how I default it to being off in literally every shooter I've ever played) and sod off…however, as much as I'm for being allowed to say anything and everything and snowflakes can (profanity) off, I'm simply saying I think if they're gonna ban a 9 year old calling me an n word, I think they should ban idiot millennials from going around and insulting whitey too.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Wait so you want to be able to say the n word whenever, and it's just the snowflakes who are restricting you from being able to hurl racial epithets at others, but also while you're at it white people are being marginalised and so somehow the words 'white people' is as derogatory as racist and homophobic hate speech?

"in 2018 being a whiteboi is about the only thing anyone feels comfortable yelling at and treating like shit unconditionally"

this is the cookedest thing I've ever read

            • @Joaby: I think we should be able to say whatever we want in an online game, and if person A says something person B doesn't like, person B should just turn off chat or block them, simple.

I'm saying if you're gonna ban people's ability to be rude about one color of people, you should ban as many as you can, or none. Shit talking or otherwise, you're not likely to use the n word for anything other than offense, and you're not likely to go around using the phrase "white people" for anything other than negative comments either, be that racism against white people, or racism for white people (ie, some idiot saying white people are better than any other people).

Stand by the whiteboi bit too. People bash whites left and right in media and on the interwebs and it's fine, someone mentions something about affirmative action, or African gang violence, or whatever, and they're branded a racist. In no way am I saying whites are oppressed or anything, far from it (obviously), I'm just saying it's cool to hate on ol' whitey right now and everyone on the interwebs does seem pretty comfortable with that.

          • -2

@TheDukeOfNukem: You heard it here first. White males are the most oppressed group in the world

        • +6

DICE were trying to expose more under-recognised areas of the war. I personally am pretty sick of seeing the obligatory Stalingrad mission/D-Day mission in every WW2 game. Variety and having different theatres of war and different factions is good. One of the reasons I liked COD 3 is because it showed the perspectives of the Polish and Canadians.

          • +3

@WinstonWithAY: Where’s is the Republic of China? If they’re trying to expose under-recognise then where is one of the major contributor to the Asia-Pacific and gets barely recognition

            • +3

@[Deactivated]: Yes. I am a DICE dev and can comment on this. What kind of question is that? How am I supposed to know if they are going to include it or not. Also, they have limited resources and time, they can't cover literally every theatre of war.

          • -1

@WinstonWithAY: Which is fine…and I think needed. There was plenty of amazing things the Allies did during WWII. But DICE should not have rewritten history to fit a SJ narrative. They did. And it's disrespectful. And that's also part of the anger.

            • @thargelios: All they had to say was "It's our take on an alternative WWII" instead of going on about how "realistic" is was going to be and then insulting their core audience with idiot comments like "don't like it? don't buy it!", "uneducated", "ignorant", "my daughter plays fortnite", etc.

      • +3

Between myself and my squadmates we've run into some pretty obnoxious bugs. It's still worth playing as a battlefield fan but I sure am hoping they fix some of this soon.

        • +2

The first major patch is due this week! But I wish it was more like Black Ops 4, they get like weekly patches. Sometimes daily patches.

          • +1

@Joaby: Cause "Fixing Games" is absolutely EA's creed. ;)

            • +1

@Munki: What do you mean? Battlefield 4 was an absolute mess at launch and they actually fixed it.

              • @Jasonissm: They never fixed Sim City.

                • +1

@Munki: Fair point, but different developers probably has more to do with that.

        • I mean it is not fantastic or perfect but what other options do we have if we want large player fps team battles with environmental destructibility and vehicles.

Honestly show me another game with half decent graphics and better gameplay and I will play it.

It is like how everyone bags McDonalds but at the end of a night if you are stuck somewhere they are probably your only option money wise and taste wise unless you got a late night kebab shop nearby or something haha lol.. bad weird analogies ftw :)

      • +1

Considering half the modes and mechanics that were key features / selling points of the game aren't even available at release, I think it's fair to say the game was rushed.

      • Various political controversies aside, It's a beautiful looking but incomplete and heavily flawed game. Despite trying, I'm not especially enjoying it though, and the reason is that it feels like they're just leaning too hard into the twitchy, CoD-infantry style gameplay than what used to make BF great -

Hallmarks of BF that are fading from the series are things like the slightly slower paced (but still intense) combat, slightly longer TTK, stronger vehicle focus (along with being able to kick arse at AT) and equally, more open map design. You could still have all of that AND have maps like Locker or Metro.

What I wouldn't give for a simple series of remasters of BFBC2, BF3 and BF4 with upgraded textures and framerates (and active playerbases!) Add in female combatants and a wide variety of ethnicities for good measure (nobody can say crap about that in a modern setting as it fits just fine!)

    • I didnt even follow

You mean you didn't even follow Bethesda's Fallout 76 debacle, Battlefield V has been recieved quite well.

      • +1

We do not speak of such things here in the sacred ozbargainlands.

Fallout 76.. Oh boy where do I begin.. For starters it felt like it came out of nowhere and was built out of nowhere which is a gamble with time and money etc.

  • +22

As someone who has purchased BFV. I can say that it is a really fun game. Forget all the crap about the game being rushed, and it's "EA". It's a really polished, enjoyable game. All future DLC is free, new map and single player war story coming in a few days. For that price it's a no brainer.

    • +11

Totally agree, it's loads of fun, and has those 'only in Battlefield' moments that really delight. It needs more maps (which are coming soon, for free) and there are some weird bugs and annoying UI things here and there - but I have full confidence these will be sorted out as they were for previous titles.

Gameplay is really well done, the graphics are amazing, the teamwork makes it especially rewarding, and it's just very enjoyable. For $50 it's a steal, considering all the content that's already available and so much more yet to come.

      • +2

Some more close quarters maps would be welcome, and not sliding around like soap when you're prone sometimes, very annoying if using an MMG

      • +1

Can somebody explain to me how the spotting system works? I’ve played bf1 for 551 hours and it seems like I have been found a lot more easily in number 5 and die a lot more

        • +1

same deal just more so spots a location and not an enemy, if you get shot at I believe it spots you too.
If you have wide FOV too the sides are zoomed in making it easier to spot further away enemies.. if that makes sense.

        • To add as well 3d spotting is gone, plus it may be your play style, I was very run and gun in bf4 and 1 with the engineer/assault class where as in V I find you need to slow down a lot more otherwise its instadeath, that being said I am still pretty run and gun

          • +2

@JMxoxo: Just to add to this, you need to constantly be on the lookout for cover. This game will punish you if you just run out into the open. Go from cover to cover and look for choke points as to where your opponents will be. I find this game is much more immersive and am super happy they got rid of the 3D spotting. No more just firing at doritos, now you have to actually look and find enemies.

This game is brilliant. Screw the reviews. The game is great. There are lots of bugs and UI/gameplay issues, but those will be tweaked out. It is apparent that they rushed it a bit. If it was left in the oven for another 3-4 months, the game would be perfect, but they seem dedicated to patching the game. After all, this is dice, they are known to put out buggy releases that get patched and polished into wonderful games a few months down the road (BF4 being a great example).

    • As a gamer, that's good to know. Almost everyone has been shitted on so much lately

    • +2

Usually shipped in one to two months though ….

      • Yeah they only had 3 in stock. I'd be surprised if they don't add more stock a bit later.

        • Their God of War stock ran out last week during the sales but they replenished it within a couple days.

      • -1

Usually shipped in one to two months though

        XDD not local stock

    • With 8% on Shopback.

Has anyone bought the PC version at this price? Its a digital download so I guess its a key that is sent. Surely that can't be 1-2mths shipping.

UPDATE: I just bought it via Amazon, it says 'arriving 31 Dec 2018'. If a key is not sent in the next couple of hours I will cancel the order and get it from JB.

      • +5

It's not a key that is sent from Amazon. It's a box with a key - I spoke to a rep.

        • +1

          Thanks for confirming that.

Cancelling my order and picking up from JB.

          • @CptHowdy: Which is also a key in a box but hey at least you can download today :p

        • +2

if the key is in the box then how do we open the box?
          ;)

        • -1

Can confirm, I bought from Amazon. It's definitely a box with a key. Mine arrived on release day.

The game is awesome fun to play. Really good, anyone not enjoying it likely has not even played it

          • +1

@itshammer: Or has a different opinion? No need to go full fanboi.

      • If it is the same as black ops 4 from the other week, it is definitely a box with the key in it. Took 1 week for delivery of Black ops 4.

  • +3

That was quick… seriously these days I cannot even justify paying more than $60 for a new release.

    • Motion to move forward games be released with full content and at a cap of $30-40 with any higher only for extra content or special privileges.

  • +4

PSA: this is a really good game and a great return to a more tactical and enjoyable Battlefield 4 style

  • -6

Not worth it. Don't support EA

    • -1

      Downvoted for truth

  • Great price.. I ordered mine from Amazon for $59 and thought it was cheap as cheapest was harvey at $69. Thanks

  • Way too many games for me to handle. I bought a Switch and PS4 Pro (thanks OzB) and now I'm inundated with a backlog of games (which is a 1st world problem).

Great deal and one of my favourite series, BF2 and 3 were great. That's all my GTX 580 can handle

    • +8

      Family squad…I like it

  • +6

I bought this and IMHO it is a really good game! Sure it needs some patches but what new multiplayer game doesn't? It's a billion times more polished than PubG is NOW and that's after God knows how many patches and development.

If you're into multiplayer FPS games, this is a no brainer. Get it!

  • Hoping EA will match this.

  • +4

Bought it at launch and have been playing it every day since. It's really fun. My only gripes at the moment are the short time-to-kill (which the devs have stated is high on their list of things to address) and a few of the bugs which I'm hoping they will address. If you've enjoyed BF games in the past I think this one is well worth the price tag.

    • What does 'short time to kill' mean?

      • +1

Kind of like hardcore mode. IE you die quickly in gun fights.

        • so hardcore TDM…

          • @Jugganautx: Oh I wasn't saying the game is like hardcore mode, it was just an easy way to define what 'short time to kill'. I played during the BETA didn't feel like hardcore mode at all. It's probably 20-30% off where I woudl like it to be, and the devs have said they're addressing it.

      • It means that you 'feel' like you die too quickly too often. This is very subjective and is part of the balance of the game. It can be a result of not knowing the game well and needing to play more in order to survive (which is fine) or the fact that some/most weapons do too much damage and are used overwhelmingly by the player-base (which is not fine). Of course you can always use this to your advantage and kill others quicker… It's just a matter of making the game feel balanced.

        • Use cover and don't run out into the open, and your time to kill is a lot better.

If they nerf it into something like call of duty I'll be giving up on it

    • +2

I prefer the TTK exactly where it is. It's a nice balance. The only time I get killed over and over is if I rush in, which you've never really been able to do in a BF game.

Honestly people it's an excellent game, way better than BF1. There are bugs currently, mostly animations, they're fixing them though.

  • Good price, Game has a few bugs but it's very fun. Also has a good population playing at anytime of the day which is nice.

  • Will the price go back up? Or is it a permanent price drop?

    • +2

It'll come back up but then down. Battlefield normally drops down quickly around xmas.

  • +4

Well made game, worth the price of entry, and will only improve as the free content gets rolled out.

    • the unfinished/cut content, you mean… :D

  • I JUST BOUGHT THIS LAST NIGHT ON AMAZON FOR $65!!!

    • +1

Amazon have a pretty easy order cancelation process. One button!? Thanks, I'll buy this instead.

      • +1

Yep, if it aint shipped, one button and say cheaper elsewhere

      • +1

Amazon customer support is pretty sick, you could ask them to refund you the difference to avoid having to cancel and reorder?

        • Just tried doing this since I ordered this last week for $66 and it has not arrived yet. They wont refund the difference. You have to cancel and reorder or in my case if its already been posted, return it and reorder.

    • +1

do you have a 28 degrees? their shoppers protection is quite nice especially for your circumstance I think.

  • Hope it drops on PS4!

  • +4

Patrick Söderlund told me not to buy it so I won't be.

  • Haven't bought a PC game from a store in years, does this come on a DVD, like a physical DVD? Do you get a download code too? I haven't had a DVD Drive for about 3-4 years now…

    • It's a piece of paper shaped in a disc with the code on it.

    • It's a blank DVD case with a code inside.

    • "NO DISC, VOUCHER INCLUDED FOR FULL GAME DOWNLOAD. INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED."

When I bought Destiny 2 it was just a cardboard disc with a code on it

    • Mine was a slip of paper. no optical media.

      45 gigabyte download.

      • +1

        45GB download?

By the time my shitty internet finishes downloading this, BFVI will probably be out. THANKS A LOT NBN.
