    • I’ve heard these are pretty good.
Any deals that you’re aware of?

Pretty much most major sunglasses brands and the biggest retailers are all owned by Luxottica that pumps out model after model of plastic glasses costing them pennies but us hundreds of dollars simply because of the brand label. If you don’t care about brand and looks, go for something more functional from activity/adventure stores or cheap eBay ones. Do get polarised and UV protection ones though.

    • Don’t mind the cheap eBay ones but will definitely get polarised

You need to look at the ratings. You want polarized, UV400 and Category 3. Category 1 is a joke, Category 2 is marginal, Category 4 you cannot drive with.

Eye protection factor 9 or 10 is ideal. Make sure you use Australian Standards or something comparable - a lot of overseas labeling may not be worth the paper it's printed on if the glasses are ultra cheap.

      • Personally I don't trust cheap eBay ones as I can't be sure of whether their protection is as they claim to be. The last thing I want is to wear tinted lenses that offers little UV protection.)

  • Depends on needs. Glasses exposed to salt, wind, snow? Oakleys EVzero. Nothing to corrode and hinge is resistant to ceasing. Lenses are also above average.

For driving? Anything with high UV filter and cheap.

    • Yeah these are mainly for driving. Good point you bring up

  • Speed dealers for sure.

    • Never heard of them before

      • Almost all servos stock them. Maybe try cheap variety stores as well.

  • I bought some Raybans using the Sunglass Hut voucher from OZB but that doesn't get as much use as the ones I bought from Cancer Council ones from Myer (was like $30 during a sale) - they've been my go-to ones.

    • Do they still sell the cancer council ones?

      • haven't seen any in Myers for a while. DJ might still sell them. Otherwise Cancer Council has their own shops.

Just keep your eyes closed all the time.

    • Would be a waste of $2500 if I did that.. lol

  • Something that’s polarised.

Sunglasses hut often have their ranges on sale - I would expect better sales on Boxing Day - but anything at 30% is a decent discount.

Frames that never really age is something like the ray ban wayfarers.

Maui Jim are never really on sale.

There is retailers online where there are greater discounts; but you really need to know what you want due to frame sizing etc. so visit a sunglass hut for some try on sessions to know the model numbers etc. My suggestion would just go through a brick and mortar store only as you have the benefit of them doing adjustments to the frame for you, and you also being happy with the lenses etc.

  • Just wear the ones the laser surgery place gave you when you left. Free!

  • Get something that's polarised for sure. Up to your tastes from there. I like oakley holbrooks though the parent company has a monopoly and charges accordingly. It is possible to buy replacement lens for less than $20 so you could just buy a non polarised pair or get a used frame and swap them out.
